Yes, I am a proud Indian and have done all my graduationa and post graduation from India, MS University of Baroda. I think, PEO needs to assess the capabilities of candidates in real terms for P.Eng. apart from its routine academic qualifications. We all Indians (except some who may not agree becoz of some reasons) must admit that the way of working in India is absolutely opposite than the way people work in North America, especially in construction sector. In India, we do not have any 'hands on experience' since we really did not need it, there were several subordinates to do the other misc. jobs that we never cared for doing anything on our own completely. Well, coming back to PEO, just follow the instructions carefully and submit all documents in order, and make sure that the resume you submit has all the five components, PEO is very cooperative in responding. You may be surprised to know that I could get my P.Eng. license in less than 18 months and that too, before I could get my citizenship.

Hi,
I am sorry to reply, since I visit this site, little often.
Like all other immigrants, I too had difficulty in finding a job in my own field, i.e. Civil Engineering when I came to Canada in January 2000. The main reason, I understand now, is that, normally construction companies and other consulting firms involved in construction, start hiring new staff somewhere in April/May of year. Anyway, after making all efforts and sending resumes to several companies, I could trigger my first job with one Geo-technical, Inspection and Testing leading consulting firm in Toronto in May 2000, as an civil engineering technician (just to remind you, I was having a Class I Officer, Central Govt. job in India). In no way I was depressed, since I knew that it is was a matter of time. I must say that one should take any level of ‘first job in his/er’s own field’, since it gives one a chance to show the knowledge and capabilities, all Indians deserve.
Now coming to PEO, the approach I took, was to research their website in detail, understood all its’ requirements and procedure. I will say here that, there is no need for anyone to get their credentials evaluated by UofT and waste $75, since PEO does on its own and it is not a mandatory requirement. I applied for my PEO license in January 2001 and was awarded Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T) in May 2001 by the Academic Committee of PEO and my file was moved to Experience Committee for interview, which was then scheduled in November 2001. The experience committee decides about the exams (if any) one has to clear and fortunately, I was not asked to clear any exams after the interview. The next step was to clear the Professional Practice Exam for Law and Ethics (this exam is mandatory for all, including Canadian graduates), which I cleared in April 2002. As a requirement, one has to have one year Canadian experience (not necessary as an engineer, it could be as an technician or an EIT) to get a license and by then I had more than that experience. So finally, in August 2002, PEO issued my a P.Eng. license to practice as professional engineer.
