I saw the entire drama on tv yesterday. Dutt was convicted of keeping illegal arms. As I see, he has nothing to do with the blast. The MEDIA has PORTRAYED him as someone who planted the bombs in the stock exchange tower in 1993. His crime was to keep the illegal arms and dispose them knowingly. That's against the law, no doubt. He never killed anyone with those arms. Agreed, he knew Dawood's brother. But number of bollywodd stars know them too including SRK. Thousands of desis have kept illegal firearms. How come they are not in jail? That includes some politicians.

Dutt has already spent 16 months in jail. He could have been let with probation with restrictions. IMO, taking 14 years to deliver justice is nothing but mockery of the justice system in our coutnry. Also linking Dutt to 1993 blast is ridiculous.

Our Courts and law and order Is it ok at present ? when we are talking about India is going more powerful country within next couple of years................................?

Powerful country? Yes, when it comes to high paying jobs in IT sector. Other than that, infrastructure is dwindling, justice system exists next to nothing, Police is currupt as hell, and to talk about Govt. department - less the better. It's not a Powerful country, but a country of few Powerful people.

If it takes 14-20 years for one case to reaches it climax, then what more can be said? Have you ever visited any Police station there? They verbally treat you as a criminal, even if you visit there just for any inquiry (I went to one for Police clearance certificate in 2000 for Canada). Then you realise, whether you visit there in your Merc, BMW or on your feet - your self respect is at stake.

As for Sanjay Dutt. He deserved what he did. If it's illegal to keep an AK-47 then he committed the crime - it's quite simple. I love his movies, but the law of land is same for everyone.

My dear friend, it's hopeless. Yes, I might sound pessimistic but that's the state of affair for an 'aam aadmi' in India.

its just a matter of time, common desi "public memory" is short & highly ignorant - reasons behind it could be a start of new thread; the one carrying the biggest stick rules the roost!

to remind a few from the recent past that were prominent in the news but now happily settled -

-Congress wins vote of confidence in Goa with a minority
-Dawood Ibrahim's - bro & sis acquitted/bailed for lack of evidence
-Shibu Soren - former federal minister serving his life sentence not in Tihar, Delhi where he was supposed to be, but in home state Jharkhand at the "pretext" of being available for court cases in & around the state; the state CM happens to drop by often to check on the "ailing" leader who is put in a isolated guest house where he can meet who ever he wants to
- MP's - Syed Shahabuddin, Pappu Yadav, DP Yadav, etc for murder, murder, murder
- YK Sabharwal - former Chief Justice of India & the extravaganza of his sons in the real estate

in due course of time..........
Sanjay Dutt granted bail/acquitted for reasons best known to.......your guess or mine - the one carrying the biggest stick in the land rules the roost - dont forget how he got bail in the 1st place :)

So.......once again we are made to believe that finally justice does catch up.
Hmmmmm.....

Does anyone have a memory that goes far back enough to '93 ?
Does anyone anyone realise that the damage was caused by bomb blasts and not Kalashnikovs ?
Do we realise that RDX was the main explosive used for the blasts ?
Do we remember where the RDX came from ?
Do we know HOW it got there ? (does anyone even know of gosabara ?)
I suppose that involves too much of 'investigative journalism', and so we don't bother ourselves with it....

And maybe that's the reason that we read a story like this (from Jan 2005).........

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/999095.cms

"Mammumiya alias Umarmiya Bukhari, the Dawood aide, who was arrested by the Porbandar police, has, after nearly 43 days of interrogation, confessed his involvement in the landing of arms and other deadly consignments during February 1993.

As per the police Mammumiya was supposed to have dispatched the RDX to Mumbai where it was reportedly used in the serial bomb blasts in March, to avenge the Babri Masjid demolition. Shashidhar said that there was evidence of RDX being sent to the Gosabara port and hence Mammumiya's confession of his involvement in the landing case was enough evidence for the police. "

And then, we read stories like this one (June 2007).........

http://www.rediff.com/news/2007/jun/05verdict1.htm

"An alleged aide of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and the key accused in the landing of RDX and arms in 1993 has been acquitted in an Arms Act case by a court in Gujarat's Porbandar district.

"Mamumiyan has been acquitted as there was no strong evidence against him," claimed his advocate Salim Jhokiya."

Another headline claims him to be "The Landing Lord".....

http://cities.expressindia.com/fullstory.php?newsid=170101

"RDX ‘Landing Lord’ lands in custody

Express News Service
Rajkot, Febraury 16: THE long wait for Jamnagar Police is over. Now, they have got the custody of gangsters Mustafa Majnoo and Ejaz Pathan to interrogate them for their role in the landing of a huge cache of RDX at Gosabora in Porbandar in 1992. The explosives were later used for the 1993 serial blasts in Mumbai. "

Oh, but why should we care, coz he is still in judicial custody, right ?

What concerns us more, and what gets more airtime is Sanjay Dutt.
Why should we care about tens of thousands of pending cases that involve Kalashnikovs ?
What we care about are the Sanjay Dutts.

If you go through the links above carefully, you will come across many more names.
Some of them have already died, of 'natural' causes', while the cases against them are still pending.
Others are out on bail.

Oh, but what am I talking about ?
I am going too far back in history.
I shouldn't be doing this.
I should concentrate more on names and faces that the masses are familiar with.
Duh !!!
