Sorry TK, I do not agree with you here. I was once into AutoCAD field but then moved to IT as I found my aptitude there. When I was looking for a job in Vancouver, I thought to try my luck in AutoCAD field as well just to get a foot in door and for money. I got a job offer for $45000 from a company specialised in designing 'Drawing boxes in AutoCAD'. I got through the interview process, but it's another thing that I got a better paying IT job at the same time as well, so I withdrew from the AutoCAD.
It entirely depands upon the right person at the right time. Just by a sheer chance. I know many of my friends who were trained with me in AutoCAD drawing an excellent salaries in India in a leading Engineering consulting firms.
Just my thought on it.
Cheers
Reliance Industries.
I personally doubt that Rs 60 lakh is minimum for a fresher
My B-I-L- is the left hand man for Anil Ambani and is a CA and does not draw that salary despite being there 10 years.
But then Anil's co is not Reliance Industries.
My niece just finished her CA in Mumbai- works for Birla at Rs 2.5 lakh per month. (Rs 30,00,000 per year).
Companies are poaching other people by paying astronomical "on -money" sums much like you'd pay for cars in the old days.
My friend who is a mutual fund manager for one company was paid Rs 1 crore as incentive to join another mutual fund company.
Things in certain circles and circuits are where it's at.
This sort of thing isn't very broad-based.
I agree with 'investpro'. It's not very broad based. Can anyone tell me when the Engineers, CAs, CSs, Scientists etc. were not getting a high salaries in India?
Apart from that, if you look at the majority of the population that are working in other fields, India is still the same. For them, drawing 20k a month is a dream. But even with that amount, they can't buy a two bedroom apartment in Metropolitan cities or even in suburbs.
I tend to laugh at the once in a while posts about the crores and millions that FEW HANDFUL people are earning in India. They always were - if you talk about the high paying fields.
For a common man in India, buying Maruti is a big thing. I am sure everyone here has not hailed from the upper bracket of society and are aware of what I am talking about.
Cheers

Fido.
Preet,
I guess you are out of line ( I was too from 2002 to 2006). I too was deaf and dumb to the strides that India made and in 2007, I realised that i would be a pauper if i went back to India.
Most of the working people (like peon, private teachers, small uneducated govt. emplyees) owned a piece of land. In the 1990's, those were valued only at a couple of lakhs. Today, In Chennai plots are around 1 crore + (I am not talking about the suburbs but areas like MKB Nagar, Perambur, Mogappair which were slums 15 years ago. I am sure that people own the buildings there and not the govt. of Tamil nadu.
Yes. For the servant or the unskilled labourer, they still live hand to mouth but every one who works in an office is getting an enormous salary.
Just some examples.
1. Female graduate. New receptionist - Rs. 10K a month in Chennai
2. Male graduate. REceptionist - Rs. 15K in TVS company
3. New CA (He did not know anything). Passed it after 8 years of the first exam. - Rs. 30K + benefits.
I am sure that majority of Indians are living a good life. In metro's it might be around 30% of the population. Maybe around 15-20% of all indians are leading a good life or rich. That works to 150-200 million. I think that the population of Canada is 32 Million.
My dad owns a Mauruthi which he bought for Rs. 80K in 2001. He says that now it is worth at around Rs. 20K.
In the village that I was in, I could not find a baby sitter for Rs. 5000 a month and I find it very hard to send $50 a month to my parents in India.
Times have changed in India and the sooner we realise that the better we (Desi's in Canada) shall be in the future .
Just my thoughts based on Tamil nadu situation.

I am a Gents and not a Ladies.
As I am observing in Bangalore, banks are ready to finance if u want a car. Show them the pay stub. Forget Maruti. That's old stuff. According to my bank mgr, its abt Rs. 1,000 pm EMI for one lakh loan. U can buy a used Tata Indica, diesel (if u find one) and make payments without pinching the pocket. If u have degree, can speak good english, u can find a decent job for a starter.
Salaries have changed. But attitudes remain the same. Lot of educated folks need to grow up.

Well said!!
