But why do you think its wrong?

They are paid higher in Canada, too - as several other posters have pointed out.
My point to the OP is that please don't believe that Canada is somehow unique in "exploiting" non-resident workers by appropriating money from their paychecks that will not be returned to them.
A lot of other countries do that - our southern neighbour being the closest example.

This is what I think regarding any benefit:

If you are deducting the premiums, then the benefit should be available to those who are paying the premiums. On these lines, I think it is wrong to charge people the premiums but denying the benefits if they are needed.

My response was to your (this) question:
"I bet if you were getting a comparable job in the US for 58.5K USD, you would not have been complaining about SS, EI and Medicare.

Why this discrimination then?"

That's why I said: comparable jobs are much highly paid in US. I am not disputing whether they are available in Canada or not.

And I agree.

However, the post in question seemed to indicate that this is something specific in Canada only, as follows -

Thanks cdn_dude, this is really bitter, one is paying for something which one will never get to use or get back. Being on CD is really giving me eye openers on Canada.

The first part is a general statement applicable to a lot of countries, including US and Canada. But the second part seems to indicate that the poster might believe that this is something unique in Canada only.

If comparable jobs are paid better in the US, does that make you feel better when a significant portion of your paycheck is appropriated for EI, Medicare and SS?

Anyhow, by comparable, I didn't mean just salary.

I meant project manager jobs in the IT sector.

Don't pay the Premium if not comfortable ...
If 'not paying' is not an option - better not to buy the Policy.
