I have applied for PR in 2001 December & received POR in May 2002. Till date i have not received any info about my status. Mean time i have updated my file just last month. Is any one who is waiting since 2002 may or any info for 2002 applicants?

Reply by CDs appreciated

Venky,

I do not know what your priorities are, but I must say lucky you! Good that you do not have choice. Hopefully in the last 6 years you have been waiting for the visa things must have changed for you. Even after this long wait you want to come here? My advise, just forget it. I wish my file would have been delayed for so long and I would have never ever come here. Now that I am here I can only wish.

Hi Iceberg,

Thanks for your frank reply. I am a banker & learning about forex. My priorities are just to learn about forex trading & planning to do a specilised course in forex & commodities, which may help after my return to india in future. I have been going through opinions & experience of CDs, especially by Khan & Chandresh in forex trading. Finally when INR appreciates(up to Rs 20 against US$), this forex trading will mashroom in India. At that time i can expect to earn much more with my expo & expertise in India.

Thanks again

Venky Anna, Venky Garu, Venky Swami !,

I do not know how to address your good self. If you see your time line and mine you are still where you are, while I have obtained my citizenship.

STOP !.

I wish I had a remote control with a big rewind button so that I can get to that day in April 2001 and NOT have applied for this whole deal. When people like Iceberg suggest you something please note that they mean it with their whole heart. Manytimes people feel that we guys are having a good life and enjoying our life here and we do not want people like you to have the same.

In a selfish note you should immigrate and spend your 3+1 years here pay your taxes and CPP so that I can be assured of my pension upon retirement.

I'm going to make a controversial statement now for which I'm going to get a lot of back lash and brick bats from other CD's on board BUT I'm going to make it:

If you are an IT professional straight from USA (or) a farmer from a village in Punjab(who has not even seen Jallandhar/Patiala) then please immigrate if not you'll run faster than you came.

I strongly suggest that you take a holiday to Canada on your LTA along with your family and look around and you will realize what is going on.

If you want learn FOREX please go to Europe as "EURO" is the new currency upon which the global economy will be based upon as "USD" is Going Down due to its wrong leadership/Iraq debacle/POOR economy and HUGE DEBT. Please wait and watch how China will send the USD and the US Economy into a tail spin.

If US catches cold then Canada sneezes.

BUT ................. if it is written in your Kundali that you have to go through this ordeal then NOBODY can stop you.

God Bless !

"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were told to eat our
vegetables at dinner and not leave them. Mothers said, 'think of the
starving children in India and finish the dinner.' And now I tell my
children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India
who would make you starve, if you don't.'"

Hi Shankaracharya,

You mean to say for the prospective immigrants to not to migrate! I wonder how the others who are in waiting would feel in India and else where in the world. I respect your opinion and thank you.

Hi Venky,

I am surprised that there were no posts to contradict opinions offered so far to your post by some friends here. You are right in mentioning that one needs to respect personal opinions and I agree with you. They are personal opinions and a reflection of what an individual feels.

In my opinion Canada is a land of immense opportunities and a beautiful country to stay and make a home. There is an initial struggles ofcourse. Its the same like one would face when they move between cities in India or anywhere else.

When moving to Canada its very important to know that you are coming to a new country and you will get what you believe in. You need to prepare by knowing and reading about the place in Canada where you intend to be moving, the opportunities the place offers for your profession and the expectations you have from your own self. Self belief is very important and trust me you will achieve what you aim for. It might take some time though and that's why I say you need to stretch your patience.

Please let me share my experience and the point I want to make. When I landed in Canada the first thing I did was to meet up with my old college mate who was here for quite some time. It was just before I left India that I could get hold of his email ID so I din'nt have much of an opportunity to share his views of Canada. We were meeting after 12 years and I was extremely excited to meet him. When I met him heavens fell and I was virtually in tears. This guy was totally wrecked and a completely changed person from what I knew of him. Continious night shifts at a shell station over previous two years had taken a big toll on his health. He kept on repeating 'Why did you have to come to Canada and this country has nothing for us engineers.' They don'nt recognize our experience , our degree's etc etc

I was very keen to know of what places and companies he had applied for. Also at what level he was applying for. I also wanted to have a look at his resume as it would have helped me modify my CV to the standards here. As the discussions went by I was stunned that two years in Canada this friend of mine had no resume made. He had no interview experience to substantiate the fact that Indian experience is not recognized here. As discussions went by he shared that he landed at Pearson and moved in a basement of his old family friend. He from his long experience in canada told him Canada recognizes no Indian experience. He also helped him find a petrol pump job so that he could pay his bills.

After quite some convincing we sat together and made our resume together over next one week.

Venky ,in one month of his decision to apply he got a job in Toronto. He got it ahead of me. And that strengthened my confidence that this country has enough to offer if you have that in you to be accepted. It took me seven months to get a job at a level where I had left in India and believe me these were tough seven months, very very tough. Failure after failure in interviews and working on a shitty job to survive was tough.

And when I joined, I was pleasently surprised to see so many successful fellow Indians around.

Though a long reply venky, the point I want to make is come here, pl do come here and come with loads of positive energy.

Good luck!!

Just adding few points to bablooajnabi's post above,

I agree to your points, whether its Canada or any other part of the world (I am not yet a PR nor visited Canada b4) but have traveled in several countries for business (more often) and vacation, worked & presently working with people from different culture out of India, couple of things I have learned to be successful is
a) Think positive
b) Have self confidence
c) Do proper home work in respect to your domain and prepare accordingly for situation & place where you are moving or going /settling
and most important is
d) Not just be flexible, but be ADAPTIVE to the circumstances, places and cultures to be successful in the crowd
