Hi all,
I would like to know as to how are the prospects of getting accounting jobs in toronto. I worked for Accountemps (USA) for a year and half when I was in Detroit. I am an MBA....
Appreciate your response.
You have accountemps here too. Getting a job thru them will not be an issue as you can give reference of Accountemp Detroit. It will be a start. You can in the meantime keep your eyes open for all other opportunities. Visit workopolis, check CGA website, papers like Globe and Mail and Toronto Star. There are other agencies like Accountemps like Part-time controllers. Register with those agencies. Accountemps also has full-time positions for its clients. Try every possible avenue. One will surely click.
from my past experience i will say employment agencies are of no use.. They call you come and register with them and then u never hear back from them.
You didnt mention details about ur education back ground.......like you did MBA from? Do you have any other Work experience other than account temp.
Not necessary. My first job in Canada was thru Accountemps. I regitered in the morning. I got a call by end of day to come next day and register. This if I remember correctly as on Wednesday. Thursday, I registered including writing of the exam. I was working by Monday. Believe me, that job gave me a necessary Canadian experience to get a job in my field. This accountemp job was only for 3 months.
I am not talking about Account temp only... I am talking about agencies in general and permanent Full time Job...
Are u an Accountant?
I will have to agree, Agencies are of no use absolutely. I had been to one agency where the lady actually told me you'll have to try in many many agencies if you are to get a job. I told her, that means you have no faith in your own capabilities.
It was my first visit to an agency then and to hear something like that really put me off.
unlike in India where agencies land you excellent jobs, here unfortunately, its not the case, alot of stress is laid on how well you dress and how well you communicate.
I will explain how it works here.
Each agency has few clients. If the client has openings, they will contatc the agency. However, one agency cannot have all the clients in town. So to cast your net wide, register with as many agencies as you can. If any clients of these agencies have job opening and it is in your area, you may have a shot at it.
Networking is always very good. But if you are new in Canada, you may not have circle of friends.
This is my opinion and my experience. Everybody's experiences are different.
