Yes, there is no other fit bowler who can replace Agarkar.
But in batting, there are some who can replace aging stars. And Rebuilding is supposed to be a Process. Selectors should start pushing out Oldies. They all are way beyond there past - and they all will go together leaving young players alone.
Laxman is bound to sit out with 2 openers & 3 giants in middle-order. They should have retained Rohit Sharma to stay & learn with the team.
After Laxman ... Selectors should shut out either Saurav or Sachin after a year.

Or when you are playing against Holland or Canada ;)

If Agarkar is a filler, whom do you go with? Players with lesser performance? In that case entire Indian pace attack is a filler. So if Zahir Khan, who is a filler too, is in the team, Agarkar must be in the team.

Yes averages do matter. To get close to 300 wickets is not a joke. A filler can not take those many wickets. He has performed well.

You avoided to answer - how come 13 wickets in to matches is poor performance?

Accept man! We do not have better fast bowler than Agarkar right now, and his position in the team is based on the performance.

My preference is to retain Laxman and dump Ganguly immediately.
I can't think why they even brought him back after sacking him and all the controversies surrounding him.
He is very territorial, selfish and factional - overall a bad influence on the team.

Laxman still has a lot of runs left in him and Sachin has too, if only he can humble himself and start playing for the team again rather than himself.

And we gotta work on the opening pair as well.

What does playing for himself means .... he is batsmen .... he scores runs it is added to team total ....... he does not take it home .... if he has scored all these centuries ...... they have all been for India ...

I think, Opening Pair is settling in. They both, Jaffer & Karthik, are here to stay.

Laxman is done. He will have to live rest of his life with that one Epic Inning.

What I meant was that, unlike his earlier days, he is not the match-winner anymore.
He is scoring runs and even centuries, but not really coming through when his team needs him to get a big score and hold the innings together.
He is getting out at crucial stages and not coming through when needed.
The scores that he is getting are mostly increasing his personal tally of runs and centuries - a lot like what Gavaskar was doing in the final stages of his career.
He still is the most accomplished batsman in the team and everyone looks up to him to deliver when needed and as the cornerstone of the battling line-up, however, in the last year or so, he's not delivering the goods.
He seems distracted and less than half of what he used to be a few years go.
He used to be able to take apart any bowling attack and carry the game single handedly.

I'm not suggesting that we drop him - all I am saying is that it's time to start grooming a replacement, because that's going to take quite a while.

My preference is to drop Agarkar, go with three fast bowlers (both in one-days and tests) - Zaheer Khan, Pathan and Sreesanth.
They are all young, eager to impress and have potential as true fast bowlers, rather than military medium and "little bit here and little bit there" kind of bowling of Agarkar.

Make these three fairly permanent members of the team, build them, groom them, coach them - hire fast bowling coaches from abroad, if necessary.
In other words, invest in them.

I think you will agree that Agarkar cannot spring up any dramatic and remarkable performances all of a sudden that he hasn't done in the last 10 years.
Therefore, every game that he plays is a missed opportunity for Pathan or Sreesanth.

So you prefer to keep poor performers and groom them! Nice logic. Keep it up!!

Both Zaheer and Sreesanth are in the team ....... as far as Pathan is concerned, his performance has not been good ..... last 10 matches he has taken 7 wickets to 13 for Agarkar ........ I wish Pathan makes a comeback to international cricket ....but as of now he need to work on his bowling ....
