It is 8 am here now, I was just waiting eagerly to read all the advice, last few weeks have been very disturbing for us, unable to come to any conclusion about our future settlement plan.
I wish to thank all of you for your valuable advice. I would like to specially thank Chandresh for his detailed answers, he has answered lots of conflicting issues going on in my mind. Decision making is a very difficult work when the decision you make will have a life long impact in your future.
Thanks a lot again Chandresh for taking the time out of your lunch break to write in such detail, I really appreciate your advice, which is very accutate and to a great extend I feel quite relaxed and more or less come to the conclusion it is not the right time for us to move to Canada. I difinitely owe you a 5 star lunch, we will contact you when we are in Canada next summer.
One more question... our PR is valid till July 2009... can we enter canada for a month during the summer of 2008 and also for two month during May & June 2009, when our daughter will graduate. Or do you think the immigration authorities will stop us at the airport and tell us since we do not have the requisite 2 year balance period in our PR card which will enable us to renew the PR card, we cannot enter Canada.

I am pursuing CGA and as a CPA (USA) and Indian CA I had got exemptions up to level 4. When I registered for my level 5, I was sent a request to fill in my experience portfolio. Well, before coming to Canada, I started my career as a Manager, advanced to Vice President finance, President Finance and also Director Finance in small to mid size (200 mn dollar turnover) companies, and have worked here in Canada as an Assistant Accountant for about 3 years and a Financial Analyst for a year.
Yesterday I received a letter from CGA part of which reads as:
Your experience portfolio indicates that your are in the intermediate phase of a career and you therefore require one year of addtional experience at a senior level to fully meet the criteria
What do you guys have to say for this?????

Andher nagri chaupat Raja . Take ser bhaji take ser khaaja Remembered this after a long time today
K_U , Please browse the Immig Expert section for a definitive answer . To my knowledge , they cannot deny you entry or exit as your PR is valid till 2008 / 2009.
The moment of reckoning comes when they assess your PR status and notify you of the same . Your lack of PR status does not steal your eligibility of being a PR till 08/09.
All the best . Hope you have peaceful nights .

Chandresh,
They are just reminding you that the President Finance...Director Finance just do filing or desk cleaning work in Asia (I believe you were in SE Asia earlier). They are reminding you (if you have forgotten) that all the financial matters of Asian companies are handled by Canadians. Therefore they have no option but to inform you that you don't have enough senior level experience.

I would call or write to the CGA Association regarding your letter and ask for a clarification. Chances are that if it is their policy to not accept experience from certain countries they will let you know. It may be an oversight as well.
You can argue your case with reference letters etc. There are exceptions to every rule.
good luck.

though I didn't work as an accountant, have (only a BCom) from India, they gave me enough credits that I had to do 2 more years and 2 upgrading courses of Taxes and Law(which changes country to country), so I am kind of surprised why are they asking you for something like that. Actually the question should be why are they even asking for it.???
I am currently doing my CMA and managed to start my Financial MGMT course at BCIT, so in contact with lot of other students who are doing CGA, but never heard either CMA or CGA asking for such a thing.
But who knows. They change things whenever they want to.

My mother tried to be here with us. We called her 4-5 times in the last 5-6 years and she always stayed for around 6 mths. She wanted to see whether she could live here. FYI all her children are settled in US or Canada. Finally last year she made up her mind that it's not for her. She cannot exist and live here. She went back and is now happy (though she is living alone). We talk to her each weekend, keep on sending her pictures through mail etc.
I know it's hard to part with parents or children, but think rationally with ur head as Chandresh said you want to give up your built society, friends etc. It's not that easy to make friends here, takes ages. Life is very different. What if??? if u find a job. Maybe not
I agree with MR come and check it out, but do you thk but just coming for 2-3 months and checking it out will give u the answers. It's only when you have to live to exist, gives u the answers. Just traveling by everything looks better.
Health care. Please don't go there. A small example. I got some viral or bacterial infection beginning of April. As usual family doctor busy, go to walk in. Says it's viral without even looking at you, send u back. AFter 5 days fever still running at 104 go to another walk in. Says it's viral but for precaution I'll give u antibiotics. I ask can we get a blood test done to make sure. Says not required. Anyways after 3 more days, still the same, fever still running 104+. Finally get to my family doctor. Says it's become pneumonia. So treatment starts. After 1.5 weeks go back to him and ask him to get another chest xray done. He ask's me why. I said don't u want to check whether infection is properly finished as I am still coughing horribly. Then he get's me an appointment with a specialist, as he himself cannot do anything more. Guess when the appointment is June 20th. I am still having a lot of cough, weakness is terrible. I have my final exams in 4 days (missed school for 4 weeks due to fever and weakness) and I am still at 50% efficiency and my family doctor says he can't do anything. Yes I am alive and I have the satisfaction of knowing the health care system will keep me alive.
