I read your whole thread completely and I have one more suggestion: Having an Indain accent is not a bad thing. Like you said, speak slowly and clearly and everyone will understand. What's terrible is when people try to speak with a Canadian/American Accent... NOT a good idea.. don't force the accent because eventually it'll come to you naturally. Please please please don't try to say 'eh' because it's a Canadian thing to do!

I agree though that people should not try to 'fake' an accent. It sounds..well fake! This is different then one genuinely trying to improve their english or whatever.
