As the name suggests, its more of an interdisciplinary programme so I think I should take the offer. Do you know some guys in saskatchewan who can give me more specific info........Also Doesn't it all depent on the research you do ?? Dude I have no other offer so I am kind of desperate.

You have the admission from the biomed dept (UofS), right? If yes, and if it is with the financial assistance, best thing will be to talk to your professor. If not,
I will try my best to get you the information/ tell you the name of the related prof. if you tell me what kind of specific information you are looking for.

Brother I had applied to U of S through a professor only.........They have given me a conditional offer saying that my admission will initially be for M.E. programme and if I do well in the first five courses I may be given research .........Also I will get assistanceship only if I get reserach.............I think if I came to Uof S I will work my ass off and try to do well in the courses.........Also the tution fee is not that high . My friends in U.S.A are paying much more in universities ranked much below Uof S

Hi Hbkkid
You are indeed correct. U of S does have the lowest fee for international students in Canada. Generally one would see a 100% difference between fees for International and Foreign students.
However, as someone pointed out rightly, there is no Biomedical Engg dept. All you have is a sub-division in EE which caters to Biomed Engg. If you want a real BioMed Engg dept, you would have to choose the big 4,
McGill, U of T, UBC or Waterloo.

What do you mean by conditional acceptance ? I faced a similar problem at U of Calgary. I applied for a PhD but I was given conditional acceptance for a Masters (even though I had a masters from IISc Bangalore !!!). I mean These Prairie universities have some weird criteria for admission ! Just check out the details before you join the program. May I suggest getting very good grades in your courses and moving to Universities in Ontario or British Columbia, with full tuition Waiver !

Okay, in that case - make sure that you are prepared for the worst case scenario - to support yourself completely (in case you are not admitted to the MS program i.e. with research). This is because there is no concept of doing "odd jobs" /off campus jobs while you are a student in Canada (people do it in the US though). Just curious, who is your prof there?

The advantage of being in Saskatchewan as a student is your Health Care is covered (free) by the provincial govt. whereas in Ontario (and I think in BC too) international students pay for their health insurance.

thax for the reply ....well u can never be too sure about anything .....I really think I should come since even if I don,t get research I can move to some other university after getting good grades in the courses I take........

My degree. will be co supervised by Dr M M Gupta and Dr. Chris Zhang......
Also my real sis is a PR and lives in BC . She is married to a citizen. So I think in worse case scenario she may be able to help me.

What do u think??

Hi bro........ thax for the reply....buddy I don,t have any other offers so I think I should accept this particular offer and really work hard after coming . Also what I want to ask u is that if I get good grades in courses would it be easy for me to get admission in other universities.

Brother since I don't have many options all I am looking for is encouragement. I hope U of S is not that bad in biomedical engineering.

Okay, so you are prepared in case you do not get admitted to research program and your back up plan is your sister who can help you. This sounds good.

Get good grades - that way if you do not like the program or your supervisor(s), you can get a transfer to some other university. A word of caution - these backup plans of transfer should never be disclosed to anybody in the university.
