Usually the expected Manager/Supervisor who can give references is from any of the previous jobs and not from the current job (where the candidate is working right now looking for a new job)

Occasionally you can have Manager's reference from current job, if it is a contract job and your date of termination is known.

Hi All,

Thanks so much for the reply.

I will have to give reference of my Manager in India.

But its difficult ,what if these 6-7 people call the manager, he will be really mad at me. As if he does not have any other work.

Can they accept written references?

Are there any agencies who verify all the references once and then we can give the name of agency to contact for reference.

Everytime any body asks for reference we can give the agency name and this way we can have nice contacts with earlier companies also.

Someone should start this business of certifying the references once than so many times.

hi,
1.Refrences have to be from supervisor/manager/trainer ..basically someone under whom you have worked
2.Refrences could be from former employers ..many a times you have choice to say do not contact present employer.
3.Written refrences are acceptable (they contact)sometimes ..important to have atleast one refrence for verbal contact .
That is why they say do not burn your bridges behind you ..so when you leave a job, leave on a positive note with good relation with your previous employer never know when you will need them in this case a positive refrence ..a few words of praise .
The questions asked from the refrence are veery standard.

You should first talk to the manager and get his persmission to use his name as a reference to so and so company/agency. That way he will expect calls from someone.

You also will need to let the company/agency know the time difference and best time to call your manager.

If an Immigrant is here for more than couple months. Chances are that he has got some 'Odd' Jobs (Factory or some Tim Hortans kind).

So Along with Indian Managers - one can also give Supervisor from here. Why not? All they want is some good feedback. Technical (Job Related) Skills can be Tested. So called Soft Skills can be Gauged from any job - which they will be figure out from Supervisors.

My personal experience is that the recruiters who are adamant about getting the references without even an interview with the main company, are not worth talking to. They do not have anything for you. The good companies ask for the references only after completing the interview.
