I have 6+ years of work experience in software development. I'm from Bangalore,India.
I worked in Nortel Networks, Canada for 6 months through my current employer.
I wish to know how to get the work permit to Canada. I love to be in canada.
Can some body guide me out?

Make sure you try this when you're here. Coz a friend of mine visited Canada in business visa but changed his mind in the last minute and decided to stay back but he didn't have time to file for work permit.
One apparent option is to to start contacting all recruitment agents besides your employer.

Think abt it more.
Nortel Networks is in in a great shape. They are still in business because of the financing from Business Development Canada (read tax payers $$). They would have shut their doors if they were a US based firm. I know number of people who got laid off from Nortel, for no fault of theirs. Lot of Nortel work is outsourced to China, India, and others.
Do some research on moving to Canada. Browse this site and other sites. See how the IT sector is. Hire and fire are common. But its not like that in India where there is demand for experienced IT folks like u. You r in a good place Blore, where IT is doing extremely well.

May I know how can I reach the job consultants in canada? I find monster.ca has not helped to get interview calls.

Thats the point desi in ottawa is talking about. Canadian IT job market is not like India.

Most companies hire only local candidates. Many more prefer canadidates referred by internal employees.
Having said that I have noticed on this board some people got job offers while they were in the US. So, if your skills are in great demand, you should get hired from India. Otherwise, take a chance and come here and try your luck through some desi company that gets you a work permit but not a real job
