Apart from Dhoni, Sreesanth and Kaif other players are from big cities or from Baroda/Chandigarh(Punjab). Baroda apart from Gujarat plays a Ranji trophy team for the past 50 years or so. Players from Chandigarh have the opportunity to represent Haryana, Punjab or Delhi which is just a few hours drive. They also enjoy excellent facilities. But there must be players like Dhoni (Bihar) and Sreesanth (Kerala) who if groomed properly can be a big success. But the selectors are not stretching themselves. There is no real exit but only turnstile for the players from the regular centres, even if they perform badly and get dropped. They just come back through the revolving door because of selectors, former players and their own cronies in the media. Just look at the scene now. They say Laxman,Saurav and Ghambir are going back. But Badrinath has got only an "outside" chance.

The player has been tried quite a few times and was found wanting at the highest level. He has since been dropped and his place taken by Wasim Jaffer What is the harm in trying a new face like Badrinath? Domestic cricket in India for most players selection if not all is deceptive. The reason is the wickets are flat and batsman friendly and doesn't really test their reflexes. Remember Parthiv Patel and another wicket keeper (Shukla?) were tried ahead of Dhoni. Another player of yester years is Chetan Chauhan. Whenever he went out he scored double or triple centuries in Ranji trophy for Maharashtra, but was not the same class as Gavaskar or Vengsarkar. Strongly feel that just like IIT or Civil Services entrance exams there must be a cap on players making comebacks. Ultimately it affects the team's performance. A new player rarely gets a look in.

Badrinath is an allrounder. He can bat very well.
As Vengsarkar said abt VRV Singh "he has done well in domestic cricket". Well, Badrinath has done it too, much better than VRV Singh. Again Badrinath may not have his zonal selector (V. Raju) support or I should say V. Raju himself is not that powerful.
Hope GG delivers. He has not scored well in the recent domestic matches.
DIO
In the 20-20 match in which India won (with second rung fast bowlers) thanks to Dinesh Kartik and Dinesh Mongia.
The flat track bully cant deliver even against second rung fast bowlers.
Sachin's last nine test innings scores were 16,14,23,26,16,28*,4,1,34. Compare this with Ponting's record of 9 centuries in his last 12 test matches. The Indian superstar cricketers have the backing of major brands who have invested crores in them for advertisements. It is not easy to drop them, even if they are lax in their performance.

Ramar,
What do you want? Replace "Sachin" "with Ramar2005". Why don't you check the record of last nine test innings of Yuvraj, Dravid, Ganguly, Laxman, Shewag, Jaffar, Kaif, or any other indian cricketer.
Any why compare only last nine test innings & why not 25-30 or more tests.
Yes, Sachin is not in his prime form, but still much-much better than others. Even he is bowling much better (one-days) than regular bowlers.
Also, do you remember performance of Pointing in 2001 (i am not sure about year) during India visit or current performance of Smith in one-days.
I had a question to all - What had happened in last 1-2 years that earlier we were requiring 7 batsmen to play one-day match (remember Dravid wicket-keeping in all those years) and now we need only 4 batsmen plus two wicket-keepers.
