Include the excise duty on the petrol by the states also. Karnataka has 25% duty. Petrol in Bangalore is the highest in the country, about Rs. 78.50. That’s how states make money and dole out crores for free programs to get votes and support from religious outfits.
TK is right. Car insurance in India is very low as compared to Canada.
A window-view of the “Economic Boom”
In my apartment complex of just nine flats, there is a small common area and this has been encroached upon by as many as 5 big cars. The worst part is that these cars are not used daily, but hardly stir out of their place for even weeks together. The occupants having a monthly six figure salary bought these vehicles more as a status symbol than for real need.
In addition, if we step out, the entire street has been taken over by a neighboring call-taxi owner parking at times even a dozen cars. This call-taxi owner is there to make all his money without providing square feet of his own parking space for his vehicles, but by utilizing all the road space meant for the public.
There is no use blaming these people alone, the state and central governments have given license to nearly a dozen brands from Maruti to the latest BMW to manufacture and sell their toys. These car manufacturers together roll out lacs every month whether we really need them or not.
A vast country like the USA or Canada, do need all these automobiles for daily commuting on their wide and un-encroached roads. The commuter also is less stressed there. In India, the valuable space meant for agriculture has been taken over by these cars and auto-parts manufacturers. Any leftover space has been covered by engineering college buildings in Tamil Nadu. The soil is getting poisoned beyond recovery, all the water holes, ponds and lakes leveled up and sold by real estate sharks. In a country of 1.2 billion, there is going to be a severe shortage of drinking water and food grains.
The news media with their mouths filled with the ad-money which the car brands have stuffed, are not able to utter a syllable about about the issue.
After creating all the confusion by putting on roads lacs of 2 and 4 wheelers every month, MMS is continuously raising the petrol price, which results in terrible inflation.
God alone can save us from the impending catastrophe.

Honestly speaking TK is a big time failure in Canada, that is why he keeps wailing like a widow and cursing Canada all the time...
It's Angoor Khattey hai for him...he can't find a thing good about Canada and keeps on lamenting about his stay in Canada...
Grow Up dude...You can make your life better in any part of the world...It's all in in you....not the lands you go to....
I will not be surprised if petrol hits Rs. 100/litre in 1-2 yrs. Bangalore has the highest rate in the country, about Rs. 78.50. One has to live with this unless there is a great push for public transportation. Many of us desis have bloated ego. Going by bus/train to work is below their dignity. Bangalore launched its first Metro rail running about 9 km. But the traffic in that route has not come down. Its as same as before. Nothing has changed. Total cost rs. 2,000 crores. More people now are opting for diesel cars since its cheaper.
IMO petrol should go to Rs 200 or beyond. That will help to save the environment, because only those will drive who really need to and others will commute in public transport.
