Guyz... lets analyze two things here...
I was a toddler++ when DON was released... I still remember, we had our rickshaw-driver... He used to tell us that he saw DON nearly 25 times....in the theatre (of 'cos in the 50 paise seats... the front rows)... That DON was/is and will be the real DON....anything else will be JUST LIKE DON...and not DON....
As they say...
Tum log yeh kyon bhool gaye ki Don Purana (Zakhmi) hai toh kya phir bhi DON hai,
Don ko Remake Karna (Pakadna) Mushkil hi nahin, Namumkin hai !
Now for my view here :-
I grew up with DON and enjoy every bit the excellent DVD released by BEI of DON..Its a staple diet for me...whenevr I feel bored, I just pop in DON...
Sarook khan, whom the ABCD/CBCD/UKBCD/XXXBCD gals croon for, can never be the DON..he will always remain Rahul..naam toh suna hoga aapne ! And yeah, I was in the high school when he burst into the limelight with Fauji and Circus.
Even the supporting cast of DON was stellar...the new cast is not hot at all, barring maybe Boman Irani...

grew up guys, it's not AB vs SK, it's just a remake....... don't take it too seriouly. I think we should appreciat SK for his ability to do this film as a tribute to Mr. AB
SK was amazing during the whole movie and the climax is amazing, farhaan did his best. Once again it's been proved that SK is a KING KHAN.

You are correct, SK is King Khan..but he can never be the DON, just like he can never be a DEVDAS

I have not watched new DON so I can not comment on this. But, I never rate SRK as an actor . He is just SRK in every film. Hit is some thing different then being an actor or a best actor. GULSHAN NANDA HIT HAI TO KYA VO SARATCHANDRA/PREMCHAND/TAGORE SE ACCHA WRITER HAI?

Whenever a remake is made it runs the risk of being compared with the earlier version which holds an advantage because people have liked it and got used to it . So the old generation cannot be the best judge as happened in the case of Devdas - My parents scorned the SRK starrer and urged me to watch the Dilip Kumar starrer. Well I found each to be equally good in their own way .... SRK did a good job in Devdas and so did the director - marvellous sets and not to forget the 2 damsels - Madhuri & Ash . Parineeta is another example of a remake well made but the older generation would not accept it I am sure .
I havent watched DON till now but will surely watch it and try tobe unbiased as much as possible .
GG - I thought awhile about admiration and affection and I hesitatingly feel that in a star - fan relationship , more often than not admiration leads to affection ....... what do you say .

Fido, your parents are correct... The Dilip Kumar starrer was the real DEVDAS... it had the substance of the Sharat Chandra Chattopadhay novel. The 2002 Devdas was Sanjay Leela Bhanshali's DEVDAS... In any Durga Puja (and that too in early 20th century Bengal) you wont see a "tawaif" (Chandramukhi) dancing in the Durga Puja mandap ! So what if it had marvelous sets. It did not have the soul of the real DEVDAS...
Parineeta was okay... if we take it in the correct context. 1960's Bengal rather than 1920's Bengal.

I think the soul of Devdas didnt lie in the tawaif dancing on the Durga Puja episode or neither in the marvelous sets .The soul lay in the display of the character of Devdas which was succinctly carried out by SRK as to what I feel .
Whenever a movie is made on a book we cant say with surety the congruence of the writer and the director as each is an artist in its own right . ' Guide' & 'Coolie' were quite different from the novels and so was 'Gone with the Wind' .Its very difficult to recapture the imagination an artist (writer) by another (director).
But we are digressing from DON so I ll wait sor someone to get back to that .
