You need to be IN CANADA for 2 yrs out of 5 to keep your PR and 3 out of 5 to apply for citizenship . do your math.

Hello,
I am a bit confused I completed my landing formalities on 31.12.2005 and returned from Canada with the PR card 1st March 2006.
Does that mean my four year period begins on 31.12.2006??
And the statement that Adults must have lived in Canada for at least three years (1,095 days) out of the four years preceding the application??? Which Application?
Appreciate your 'gyan' in this matter.
