Mistar India!
Great Idea.
If we have enough volunteer with good knowledge of job search this could be a great success.
I can understand the process of collecting and preparing summary of resumes, but the quality of such document will depend on the person doing that job - as you are already in recruiting, you can be a better person.
The biggest Park is finding a job.
Networking can and will help - but it will be initial static friction - how can we start this?
As a developer of this I can support this way.
Any user can submit resume online on CanadianDesi. Now not everybody's resume are of good canadian standards. We need to check and modify those resumes. The process can take 4-5 iterations before the resume can be useful. To do this we need volunteer from different fields those can modify the resume. The entire process of resume modification can be done online.
Once the resume is final it will be sent to a person for online categorisation. Once it is done it will be published on appropriate section along with summary on CanadianDesi where members are volunteering for job search. Now people can search job accordingly for others.
This will be only job search - no resume submitting or anything.
We can invite recruiters to check our database regulalry that will have free access for them.
Eventually CanadianDesi will become "Desi Monster" for canada!!!
This is feasible - but only with volunteers.
Any more ideas gurus?

Hi GG,
We are glad to see that you have also given your consent on this project. I would only like to add a cent of suggestion.
We can define mostly acceptable standard Resume and ask the fellows to prepare and submit their resume considering those lines. By doing this we can reduce the avoid the duplication of work for re-building according to Canadian Standards those many times.
And you are absolutely right that we should have different sections and volunteers who can make any final changes (If reqd.) and we might still need some special type of formats for those specialists.
Now, we Need more input on how to handle specialists resume whereas the general Functional and chronologial resumes can be prepared by the members themselves according to canandian standards and maybe we can reduce considerable amount of work.
We can ask our members whosoever may want to upload the Resume should prepare, check with the Standard and upload accordingly.
Do you think that we can define the Standard Format from the following link.
http://www.settlement.org/site/EM/sample_resume.asp
for building the resume according to Canadian requirements.
Need your opinion and also of other Senior Desis....
Count me in as a volunteer , though I would be needing guidelines from the senior members...

Mishtar,
Some very good suggestions there indeed. Although not in that much detail, we did discuss something along similar lines when we last met in December. I suspect there's going to be a heavy discussion regarding this in the Jan 10th meeting as well since helping desis professionally would be one of the prime goals of Canadiandesi.
Let's keep the good ideas coming.

Are you there?
GG,BL,Jake - I did realize that this topic would be the center of attn even before i wrote the thread. I just want this forum to know that people like me would be willing to chip in thier time to make it happen. Once the concept is bought by the group then the details of how to go about doing it can be worked out by suggestions and inputs of everyone. Thats what will make it more enjoyable.
I truly believe that of all the desi groups- offline or online, ours has all the key ingredients to make it a success. We have talented and successful people from different backgrounds who have a common goal to succeed professionally and socially in Canada .We have great forum with an encouraging environment , where the discussions are very realistic and yet brimming with hopes. And most importantly the discussions are very respectful of every participant, however contradicting views the other person might have. All these factors are the key ingredients of a successful organization. Things can only look up from here and we have a long way to go.
Amit - You are right about the standard format for resume, here in the US there was a fad of single page resumes for a long time but it is changing now. A standard format which you sent would be a good start. We then will have to focus on the contents.
One golden rule which i learnt here is - write the resume after reading the job description. Not many of us do that. Many of us write a resume, polish it, buff it and then do mass mailings.Sometimes we just tweak it a little here and there to meet a specific job criteria. But one can make a vast difference if one writes it fresh after reading the job description, the chances of getting picked up increase manyfold.
I am not asking to misrepresent anything, just re-emphasize your skills to fit the job. Now such an excercise will need lot of work by the candidate . As GG rightly said it will need a lot of iterations. I look at it this way - it is better to send resume to 5 places with increased chances of matching the job description than to send a standard resume to 100 places without a close match. It would be interesting to see what direction this takes after the first meeting on 10th.
Another thing which I am sure has been talked about in the past, is to conduct regular professional development sessions. There is a lot that we can learn from each other by sharing our skills. Topics can be anything ranging from interviewing skills to general management topics like conflict resolution, effective communication etc. There is a lot of training contents available. If there is interest we can add a short professional development session in our regular meetings as well.....this is just a thought ...lets see what everyone has to say.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
What can be imagined, can be achieved.
please keep us updated on the jan 10th meeting, and we will take it from there on, the suggestions have been valuable, once we get the minutes of meeting, we will design a system that is feasable to implement and then expand it slowly depending on the feedback.
I am ready to help within my capacity.
