I can not comment about today's (16 Sept 2006) Toronto Star artical.

Finally Help Arrived . are we living in refugee camps like other countries in world?

Why not transfer this to Success Story Section for those who are still in favour of
POSITIVE THINKING OR ONLY WANT"S TO LISTEN SUCCESS STORIES.

I have a lot in mind to say about Canadian System or Society but keep it for next time.

BTW, thanks for update

This article and the follow up goes to show that Canadians of every stripe are a compassionate people and cannot see one among them suffering.

Before we go off on a rant about the struggle immigrants face here, remember there are people everywhere in the world (no matter where you come from) who work for minimum wage and cannot make ends meet. So while the subject of this article cannot afford a sofa, she has as much health coverage as the next guy. She has as much security as the next guy. Her children and my children get the same opportunity in education and life. And she can live in this country holding her head high. She can actually practise Ghandism - no shame in an honest days work, no matter what she does.

Many many countries in the world, people like her would be marginalized.

Big Vee.. I agree with your post.

My question after reading the article was: why did the husband not return to Canada? IF he is working in India..is he sending money to his spouse? if no- why not?

It is difficult for any single parent (married with a spouse far away or not , Immigrant or not) to raise children and work full time. It is commendable that she works very hard. After reading the article, I felt humbled that I take many things that I do have for granted.

Help arrived ?
I wouldn't say so....
Coz the way I look at it, she was just an example of the problem.
She may have got "help" (although i am not sure how good she would feel about getting help in the form of donations), but that doesnt solve the problem.
There are many many more, for whom "the help hasn't arrived", and the Toronto Star can't advocate and/or highlight the plight of each and every one of them...

To "help" her, and others in similar situations, the root causes of her problem need to be pinpointed and addressed...

Why imagine this person in India..?

Is she not living in Canada since last 13 years. She showed commitment and you still comparing her life if she is her country.

I am feeling like that i am living in past times when a British rule in subcontinent and lower class was kept out from all benefits. It is still happening in those countries and shahi class took all benefits and common people are suffering.

After paying taxes, what's she got in return "help/donation from people", Where is government?

What is image of Canada outside?

Land of Opportunities - if you can find one.
Free Medical - If you can find doctor. People say "you are lucky if you survived from sickness"
Free Education - School teachers were on strike due to workload and big classes. (No need to tell about Hydro workers strike and others)

Immigration Officers looking for high qualified peoples for immigration but don't tell people that your education is not acceptable in Canada and you need Canadian experience to cut onion.

Canadian market needs truck drivers, general labour, sweeper or low-level job work force. Why government is not advertising for that to world.

People came here with high hopes and in result what they get "suffering". This is one example of many that already reported in newspapers , TV shows and a lot unreported cases. (as mails4sagar said)

Government acknowledge the problems but don't want to take steps to solve it because government interest is in to push more people in labour force by any means. Government knows that poverty but action null.

I am against those who hide realities or problems in Canada from people living outside. Tell the people truth about Canada and correct ratio of success or failure.

I just want to create awareness to the people either living or willing to live in Canada.

Thanks all who participate in this thread.

regards,
