I sure would like to know all your opinions on this!!

I think people are called here for one and only reason, to work as a labor worker. When you go to any agencies they ask for Canadian experience. Then why Canadian government qualified you to come here on point systems!!! Microsoft, Dell, GM, FORD, WALL-MART, etc... they are moving to India and Pakistan for cheap labor, but when the same desi peoples come here the one who created those software’s or products in the same companies they are asked for Canadian experiences.. or if they know how to use the systems. What kind of stupid questions are they! When someone spend 25-30yrs of their life studying for something then why its not respected worldwide? Does human anatomy changes when Doctor or Pharmacist move from India to Canada? Does computer fundamentals changes if someone moves from Pakistan to Canada? Does engineering fundamentals changes or laws of math changes if you come to Canada? All these are foolish excuses to keep desi peoples as what they intend to as below them. Why is that after all the study when Canadian government grants you a Visa for your qualifications you have to study more in Canada and pay Canadian government more money to get the equivalence? On top of that new students who are mostly non-desi will get jobs as soon as they come out of colleges. Why are they getting so called Canadian experiences and why are we not getting the chance to do so as we enter this country!!! Why all the company have non-desi people in big offices even if they came from Bosnia or god knows where, and they are doing good jobs and those non-desi people u know who I am talking about.. They don’t even know how to speak proper English. And here we are working like jackass searching for one staffing agency to another one which might pay us .25 cents extra!! Don’t get me wrong I am not straight from India or Pakistan, I have done my Univ. in U.S. and I do have so… so… job. But I have gone threw everything like every new comer goes threw.. Working threw agencies going to god knows how many companies, working so hard, burning my sweat and bleeding hoping for some one to hire me but my degree was useless against the color of my skin. If we don’t stand up for ourselves even thaw we have good jobs or so call settled, still we can get into the same cycle again with layoffs or god knows whatever.. and cycle will keep on going with new comers to Canada or U.S. or anywhere… I say we should sue each and every company that ask for those kind of stupid questions such as “Canadian experiences” or “Education equivalence” if we find a single person working in there company who got the job just because of the color of their skin, you will know cause those guys won’t know how to speak proper English. How dare they not recognize the same degrees and qualifications that their own government of Canada it self recognized to give us the Visas on point systems on the first place… How dare them dough their own governments decisions and question us. Even government itself is not asking once we enter here, if we apply for some government jobs that do u have Canadian experience?

Veeman,

You may be right or say you are right. But who is listening.
Till the system changes for good, get your citizenship, go south of border, chances of getting jobs are many fold, and come back after you are 60-65. Canada is good for medical care.

Dear veeman,

You are absolutely right, i was thinking of writing this article but good that you did. Ben is absolutely right, take citizenship and go to US, many many jobs there and they dont ask for American Experience. They recognise Indian people and degrees. Many people are in same spot as you, canadian experience is a useless thing, computers dont change across countries, but no one will listen. Its only we who have to make our minds. By the time if system change its gonna be too late for us. Maybe good for our third generation. Be positive as i am and many others are bcoz we dont have any other choice.

Dear Veeman,

Very sad to hear about your frustration. I have nothing to add to this but I was also in the same boat as you. I have been on this forum since 2001 and with this avatar since 2003. There has been plenty written about this and much more.

I have to second the opinion stated above by Ben and Cool !. If you study this forum since its inception the same thing has been repeated in various forms. The typical CD threads would deal with the following aspects:

1.How much more for visa stamping ?
2.Can I send my passport by post /courier to India to visa stamping ?
3.Why are people so negative about Canada, My God (you can fill the choice of Gods name) will help me to succeed in Canada ?
4.Please give me name and location of placement agencies and head hunters for findind jobs in Canada and where do I settle?.
5.After landing most of them will simply disappear away from this site as they are doing labor jobs to make ends meet. Some of them like me will find enough energy to present the realistic picture about the situation here and we will be labelled as the \"Boo-Hoo\" Club and need to hear to some S#@t from others.

.........................Time progresses.....................

6.You are closer to your 1095 days and in the process of obtaining your Passport and you start spending time to renew your contacts in US of A and look for a job.
7.You get your passport and go south of border on a TN Visa(How do I get a TN visa ?), and move onto a H-1B and wait endlessly for your GC.

This is the circle/cycle most of us have been going through. I would accept the observations made by you, but what I do not accept is that you have been a few Kms away and you would(should) have known the situation before landing up here. If you are so much pissed off(eventhough you have best chance of jumping across the border with your US degree) think of thousands of people who have come from India and Gulf. Where would they go as their chances of obtaining a US GC under EB-3 or other category near to impossible in their life time.

As some one adviced me(I think it was a great guy called Tammudu)on this very same site, consider this period of 36 months as your Unpaid vacation. You land here, spend the first 12 months surviving, the second 12 months to survive, and the last 12 months to activate your contacts in US of A and to interview and get the dream job of your choice. Once you have finished your 36 months move onto US of A and continue where you left before you migrated to Canada.

If not you will be frustrated and indirectly your family also will be frustrated. Enjoy your 3 years in Canada, go skiing, mountain biking, driving to all parts of the country and relax.

Work on your body(improve your physical condition), learn stuff you always dreamt to do like a guitar, swimming, tennis, ballet, Indian classical music or any other stuff.

No point in crying over spilt milk!. The best thing which will happen to you is that you will become such a penny pincher in Canada, and if you continue your same life style in US of A, you will laugh your way to the bank.

The best thing to do is to save enough money and invest it in a nice summer home somewhere up in the mountains, and make your annual vacation trip there when you are in US of A driving your new mint condition BMW or Lexus/Mercedes.

I'm no position to advice to you, but I would like to refocus your thoughts as I did the same.

If you really want to survive/succeed(Moneywise) then you should become a Insurance salesman or a Real Estate Agent. I can give you a whole list of people who have all the fancy degrees from all parts of the world which contain all the alphabets in the English language handing over business cards which say Clarica/Re-Max or any similar stuff.

Do not waste your time on looking at what has happened, but please refocus and prepare yourself for where you want to go.

All are cries mean nothing as immigration is one of main source of revenues for this country(hence things will not change but may go to worse), this starts from your application fee, ROLF, your landing funds, the house you are going to buy and hence the mortgage and all the taxes you are going to pay.

Please refocus your life, keep in touch with your pals in US of A and move on....

Best of Luck !

who would make you starve, if you don't.'"

1) I expect that a university educated individual , regardless of their country will have the ability to spell very basic words.

2) Canadian experience can refer to softskills, not just technical know how. It is important for many companies to have strong team players and those that understand the work 'culture' of an office. Every country in the world cannot be the same. I dont believe you are being singled out because you are a 'desi', but ask yourself, or family or friends if they have any comments/critiques on your professional manner/appearance/dress sense.

3) Practice your interview skills/techniques. Even "Canadian borns" are prone to being laid off, or rejected for a job. Many times it is because of soft skills. At the same time you cannot presume that all desi's are in "labour jobs".

4) From your post it seems you are either angry with the Canadian govt about your education not being recognized, but then you later say that it is your skin colour. Are you indicating it is both?

5) Anyone can get laid off, not just Immigrants.

6) What is "education equivelant"?

7) If you apply for a government position, you will be advised that canadian citizens are given first pick. I believe most countries will give govt jobs to their own citizens first.

8) do you know what a 'dead horse' is?

Veeman,

Focus on your goals and try again & again in the companies in your field. Whatever you say is mostly true. Yes, after your "Vanvaas" here of 3+ years, you will have option to move to USA.

Here people will just tell you that you don't have soft skills,...... you don't know, how to calculate 2+3 (as you don't use calculator to calculate), ......

Best of Luck.

When the subject said "Very funny.. ", I thought this was a joke.

Anyway, I didn't have the patience to read through such a lengthy rant. Just a brief look at your post makes me suspect if you really had a University education in the US as you claim to have. For starters, you sure seem to know about "WALL-MART", the desi "peoples" and sure seem to have gone "threw" a lot!

To all of those who say "Hang on for 3 years or so on vanvaas, and then go south of the border", expecting to be handed plum jobs on a silver platter, a bit of a reality check. The grass is always greener on the other side. Granted, you may be able to make a bit more down there, but trust me, there will be a million things to worry about then as well. Oh, and American companies look for "soft skills" too.
