Hi Pal

Thanks a ton for your candid opinion really appreciate it. Well yes it does makes sense about no one answering my question about colleges. But the way Canadian college market themselves in India and the wonderful portal they hold kind of lures everybody. Well I'm interested in relocating to Canada and immigration is a slow babugiri process in India. Ramesh

hello Ramesh,

It is not only the way Canadian Collegees market themselves in India and the wonderful portal they hold..................even the govt of Canada does the same. And so not only the colleges, but even the govt is able to lure everybody in India. and that is the truth.

So what would be your reaction now.......you wanted to go the study route to come into Canada using a \"wonderfully sold college\" - but would you like to rethink about the \"wonderfully sold Canada\"?

Let me telll you one thing - these North Americans can be the ideal people to learn marketing techniques from. As they say, these guys here are capable of selling a refrigerator to an eskimo, or a comb to a baldhead.

So take your time and study the reasons why you would like to migrate to Canada? No it is not bad to migrate here - there are dozens of good reasons to migrate from India to Canada, but just do not get fooled by the wonderful advertising done in India for Canada. List up your priorities and desires and compare them against your strengths and perseverence power, and then take a decision.

Hey Chandresh
Thanks so much for your reply. I knew you'd reply to my post sometime soon. Anyways after reading N+ posting of frustrated and lesser few successful Canadian including your own post about having to do odd jobs I still have a strong aspiration to relocate to Canada . Can you/anyone who reads this post suggest an alternative route besides immigration coz it takes ages and colleges apparently are faking. Btw I've a B1/B2 US visa on me. Will/Can this be of any help????. Awaiting replies and thanks guys for being so candid.

Cheers
Ramesh

To add to your zeal to migrate, I would put forward a question-

Why not Australia or New Zealand where migration is equally easy or perhaps easier?

Why not USA where you can enroll in a course first and later settle down. USA happens to be the big brother of Canada so whatever you can find good here can be found there too (unless you love lots and lots of snow and really cold winters)

Why not Singapore which does not have migration rules, but offers PR very fast to young and qualified people like you and give a fantastic life to an Indian.

And if the purpose is only to get out of India, why not places like Indonesia or Malaysia where there is more money, more comforts and more respect for an Indian - but PR comes only after you have stayed there for atleast 5 years.

Why only Canada?

Formulate your reasons, post them here and then people might be in a better position to suggest alternatives, rather than just asking how to fast track your landing into Canada. Also give more details about you so that members can devise ways to speed up things based on your qualifications (not necessarily academic, but others too - like if you have the financial power, business migration coupled with work permit could perhaps be the fastest way)

Hey Chandresh
Thanks again for responding. Well to answer the questions you've asked
let me begin with why not Australia/New Zealand????. I'm a Bcom and I've been in in India's \"So Called\" Booming BPO industry with core competency in Back Office Operations( Data Entry). In other words I've been doing outsourced jobs like Payroll for Bank of America, Mortgage Processing for clients back in the US . To my best understanding Australia/New Zealand(even Singapore) don't have much job scope/openings in these fields. Canada being in the same proximity and time zone for Big B USA with so many service industries I certainly feel I'll be able to find myself a job in my core field to gain the much needed Canadian experience to begin with before I advance/think of any further. Again to what best I understand it's easier to get work permit in Canada if you have a job unlike back in Australia/New Zealand. Well life in the west is work hard play hard & everyone who have left India never really regretted when you draw parallel to things back in the west to India. Hope these inputs count. Looking forward to more responses. Thanks again guys for replying. Keep them pouring.

Cheers
Ramesh

When looking for colleges/courses try to contact past/present students who have actually been part of the programs you are considering. Find out about the faculty..their experience etc.
Often, just the college name may not be sufficient to make an informed decision.
e.g: A lot of well known and respected colleges offer 3d animation courses. How good those courses are, is another matter all together. At an average cost of $12K/yr (more for international students) these courses are not cheap either. A lot of these places only teach you how to use a particular software. Knowing where menu functions lie in the interface is not exactly what the job market requires...as students soon find out.

Hello Ramesh:

I am an MBA and a CA from India with international experience-having worked and lived in Singapore, HongKong, Europe and now in Canada. In between lay offs in various places, I of course have lived and worked in India. With all this background and experience, allow me to offer my insights into life in North America, more particularly in Canada.

I am afraid that you have some misperception that your BPO experience will help you get a job in Canada. While your skillsets will certainly be useful, the reality is that many companies both in Canada and US are outsourcing jobs to India. In fact, I would say that would have been the main reason why you could get a job easily and be so happy. Please remember that when you come here, you will find that the very job you are looking for is not here but back in India. Also, the tendency for acceptance of international experience and qualifications is not easy here as it is in the US.You might want to refer to various postings and comments inthis site.

All said and done,it is not easy to make money here. The real money is in India, where one already has his own house, and assets (either inherited or acquired). Here there is no job security which means one has to constantly be competitive. BPO skills may not be that transferable across industries. In fact I would say that the BPO skillsets are more relevant for the banking and financial services industry, which is very few in Canada. There are only 5 banks and a handful of financial insurance companies. And my friend, almost all these companies have outsourced to India or China.

The only jobs you can get here are jobs that require specialist skills that are not readily available or are available expensive.Such as medicine or high precision engineering. BPO jobs are highly competitive, too many immigrants already here and all of them doing the same thing as in a BPO.So where does that leave you?

I would not say that almost everyone here who has come here has not regretted the decision. Well settled and well qualified people almost certainly realise the mistake made. But there is no escape-since one has to recoup the lost investment and lost earnings etc.I do not know your background fully;and hence cannot comment.

The grass is always greener on the other side;and only when fully here one will understand the situation.By that time it may be too late.Think well before you leap.

Regards
Sathish
