Plenty of Kannadigas in town. There is a very active Kannada Sangha in town. This meets very often at Mississauga/Brampton. There is also a radio program playing new Kannada songs on CMR FM radio 101.30 on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

There are so many people from Karnataka, mostly IT professionals currently on hibernation for their \"C\" passport and waiting to cross the border !.

Speech by Thomas Friedman of The New York Times....

"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were told to eat our
vegetables at dinner and not leave them. Mothers said, 'think of the
starving children in India and finish the dinner.' And now I tell my
children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India
who would make you starve, if you don't.'"

What is the difference between Tulu and Konkani?

I am not trying to but into this conversation. But here is my two bits, that might make it into four.
Chetan v: Is there a Bangalore group in Toronto?
'Shakaracharya' : I liked the foot note in your write up. That is why I said the times are a changing. Your answer was appropriate to the question, in identifying the group and the state from which they originate. That was straight forward.
Even to this day the children all over the world finish their veggies and to that extent there are innumerale children still go hungry there too. I would like to add to that, it is sad to see so many left to go hungry. They do finish their Math home work too. They cannot afford to slack off in this aspect or any other, lest they will stand to loose. Hence I liked the Friedman's write up and your example.
(Where am I going with this)
Now 'disel' branches off with 'from mangalore' and with 'Konkanis' and 'Tulu'.
It starts to get more interesting. He says he is in Canada. What is he doiing here?
'Lana' Steps in. She knows who are Konkanis and says I know their associatiobn. Well some one knows who konkanis are.!!
'disel' I love to hear from you Lana, 'BUT' I am a GSB and not a Catholic Goan.
I don't know what made (him) sense that Lana was a Catholic Goan??!! and he wants to know if the association that Lana was referring to was that of the Konkanis in Canada, (Ontario)
Now 'Timon ' steps in : \"What is the difference between 'Tulu' and 'Konkani' ?
and I liked the foot note in his signature \"The grass..... wherever you may be\".
Wow. How am I going to put all of this together after assimilating this and get an answer into this part of this string. I am racking my brain and see what the facts are and what is redundant.
The facts are: We all are from the same continent. There are about 24 major languages. Lots of speakers in them. Here is a gentleman/lady looking for other speakers of that region that speak Konkani, Kannada and Tulu looking to meet other speakers that speak eithger or all of these languages.
History states, that konkani's are a group of people that moved from the north India, from a mythical river called Saraswati and migrated all over the west coast area. Around the 15th Century, Vasco Da Gama of Portugal came down to Goa and ruled over the area and converted a few of the natives, including a few Sarawats' by baptising them. (Rumour has it that he threw a loaf of bread into the wells there and told them that they all were baptised thereby and are now Catholics.
Tuluites are a group of people who live in the mountainous region of Karnataka where the predominent language is Kannada. Tulu is spoken in the 'Coorg' area and people who reside in and around this pocket have somehow acquired a knack of picking all of these langauges residing at these locations. I can beleive that they alleviate themselves from each other and yet it brings them close to each other outside of that region. That is Camaradeie. I say the same thing here\"What is the difference\"
If I were to crossover the fence here now, I surely will carry a few big bottles of fire water and see if the \"g.ass is greener or what\" ? and Tending may get me into trouble.

Well I can always defend myself by pulling my glass eye out of one and say I am also blind in the other.

Well Gentlemen and Ladies, This is a long weekend and I am trying to while away a little of my time surfing through this web and it is getting to be a little more interesting. I wish all of you a good long weekend. Don't get dried out and do keep your whistles wet and the g.ass greener and tendered.
