Hello,

As we have this mundan ceremony in indian customs, how do we perform it here ?

Where to take the baby for mundan ? I called one of indian saloons and he said they do for free but he insisted that I should willing give him $101.

I called temple, and they do some pooja. But ques is where to take for hair cut ?

Your local priest can come home and perform the rites for you. But first you must buy a hair clipper from anywhere like Shoppers Drug Mart or Zellers. (Not WalMart cos they exploit workers and all the benefits from the mundan will be wiped out)

So after the priest performs the rites you go to town on the lil' head!

This is what some people do. Take a little cut in front of home temple/god, put it for a day or so in the temple and than dispose it off in lake ontairo ;) considering it as a holy water.

Than just go and do mundan from any saloon.

If you wish you can donate some money to any temple.

Thanks to all. Mundan has been done in a salon. He cried a while on chair for hair cut but later he was fine. He looks more handsome bald. After mundan we put haldi on his head and then after bath, put hair oil.

But the idea given above to buy ur own clipper and do on your own ....man I can never ever imagine that, forget doing on my own.

Aashu, (and other CD members)
Can you please give me the name of the saloon/ location/ cost for Mundan.
Also could you give me an idea if this saloon also does the ear piercing too? if not, do you know of any other place in the GTA (non religious and non denominational place) for ear piercing for an infant of 11 months?
TK A
Footnote : Thanks to Hiren, surti and Aashu for their kind replies.

TK,

I did the ear piercing of my daughter when she was 3 months..that way she felt less pain and was easy to control. At 11 months, your daughter will be aware of something happening to her ears, will be confused and after the first ear, will play havoc for the next one...(just assuming:D )..anyways, we got our daughter 's ears pierced at a small shop in cedarbrae mall at lawrence and markham in scarborough. There is no charge if you buy $20.00 ear rings from them.

Mundan was done in India during our recent visit (infact we shaved her thrice...)

Hiren
