Zidane, an Algerian immigrant is now the national hero of France now.

Can this kind of success get replicated in Canada by any desis or other immigrants?

Why not ???
Do you mean just in sports, or in any field ???

FYI, majority of successful people in canada are immigrants...you need to count how many original canadians (the natives) are successful in canada - success = fame, respect, money, media attention (for the right reasons) and / or any combination of the above.

Add Donovan Bailey and Steve Nash to that list.

Both are foreign born (Bailey in Jamaica, Nash in South Africa), while Zidane is French born.

Outside of sports, how about Frank Stronach of Magna International (Austrian born).

A search of the internet would likely reveal many first or second generation Canadians that have 'become famous' for some reason or the other!
