Hi Guys,
I am also on the lookout for the same.
when comparing the quality of the pictures, I cannot find the good quality in Plasma 40", when compared to the LCD.
I am looking out for the quality of the LCD of NEC-Opti Clear, or HP-19" computer monitor for $299.00 available in future shop.
Can anyone in this field give some info on TV availability of the above mentioned quality of a bigger size.
Thanks and Regards,
Well as Toronto is only 350 ft above sea level but it does not mean the whole Canada is around that level. The person did not say in his post that he is from Toronto so I thought it is worth to mention this info as CD is accessible from the places 15000 ft (or above) above sea level too.

Hi,
I have been doing some search on the net on the issue for a while and found the following sites to be useful.
http://www.flattvpeople.com/tutorials/lcd-vs-plasma.asp

I have also read some reviews of the different brands and Panasonic seems to be winning hands down in terms of picture and sound quality. Pioneer is no doubt the best but the price difference between the two is quite a bit (you may be able to buy Sony Dream DVD Wireless Home Theatre DAV-FX900W with this difference). Panasonic claims lifetime of 60,000 hours and looks very impressive. Its 50" model was on sale for 2499 during this boxing day sale at Future shop while their sister company Best Buy was selling same model for 2699. Here is the link to review of Panasonic Plasma.

I also found this link to provide by far the best in-depth review of the plasma..

(you can select other models/brands here too)
Panasonic is introducing new line-up of Plasma this Spring and the current crop of models will see further decline in price in coming weeks.

DLP or LCD projection has provision of replacing lamp, average expectancy of lamp life is 5000 to 10000 hrs (lamp cost is $300). These TV have bright colors but looses on black, which is hard to detect. They are bulky compare to LCD / Plasma but slimer compare to picture tube TV.
I have LCD projection Sony and do not feel any difference compare to LCD other than, it is impossible to be mounted on wall

Check for pervert's database here http://www.perverted-justice.com
we just got plasma 50'' AKAI TV from Costco- great price and we love it. With HD - picture quality is amazing.
strongly recomm- totally worth it.
price $1799
The fact is tube-TVs last the longest when compared to LCDs and Plasmas. Also, many flat screen tube TVs are HD ready. So if you want your TV to last for, well, for a long, long time, you still would be better off with tube-TVs.
So, what is the selling point for you when it comes to LCD and/or Plasma?
When I did some research, I found that Sharp Aquos series LCD TVs are the only ones made in Japan. Rest are made in Korea, China etc.
With technology changing so fast, you may find that in 60,000 hrs or less (the life span of LCD/Plasma), you will be itching for another upgrade!
If you are planning to buy within 46 inch I would advice for LCD mainly 60,000 hrs comparing 20,000 hrs of plasma.
I purchased 40 inch LCD HD (contrast ratio 3000:1,Samsung) in Aug 2006 and last week helped my friend to purchase 32 inch LCD HD (contrast ratio 4000:1,Samsung).
If your budget permits buy only within Samsung or Sony bravia (contast ratio 3000:1 ot above) as they are the leader in the market.
btw in best buy Boxing week Samsung 46'' LCD sold at $2499 which I actually paid for my 40 inch one only 4 months back both LCD and plasme HD TVs are falling like anything so keep a good watch for a deal
