I want help in finding an appropriate day care for a 11 month old baby. At the place where this baby lives, there are not enough Day care centres (Both private or registered) and the only people available are Philipinos which the parents are not happy with. At one Day care (Private), they are asking for $200 a week and also there are no vacancies at this time. The baby's parents have even thought of shifting to Dundas and Queensway as there might be an abundance of people available for Day care. The parents currently live in Royal York and Lakeshore.
Can CD members kindly put forward their suggestions for finding an appropriate day care and back up's too (in case the first baby sitter wants to go on vacation). The parents donot mind driving the child to a baby sitter area (Like Islington and Dundas) provided that it is not too far from their home and the dad's job (and the only one who knows how to drive a car and who has a car) is at Islington and Steels. The kind of baby sitter looked for is Desi (Tamilian is best), White Canadians (Including West europeans).
Thanks
TK A

I never knew that Tamilians are best baby sitters.

It is very difficult to find a good daycare for your child. We had our 1 year old at a daycare at Philip Pocock, they were really nice and took great care of our child before we moved to Brampton. The daycare is located at Tomken and Eastgate Parkway if its convinient for you, I would recommend the same.

Moreover its worth spending the extra buck for your child and keep them in a registered well cared daycare place rather than a home based one until the child is about 3 years old. It's expensive I have been through it but we do whats best for our children. Other one is Peekaboo on Dixie but they are usually full.

Try this link.http://www.toronto.ca/children/childcare.htm You can search for available daycares in your area and also check space availability there
I agree with medhora that its worth spending more for childcare at a registered daycare especially when the child is very young and cannot tell her/his parents anything that happened at the daycare.
I have heard chilling stories about a lady who would lock children in the bathroom for 20-30 mins and go out to finish her errands:mad:

Just to update CD's on things i found out for private daycare.
There are many unlicensed day care people around where anyone lives. Just contact a nearby neighbour hood service centre and they will give you a list of people at a cost of $35. This list is updated regularly and gives the person's name, address , phone no and facilities offered like free games, free snacks etc.. Ring them up and see their price and conditions.
From what i found out :
for infants around 1 year of age, the people charge $35 to $45 a day for approx. 8:30 am to 6:30 pm. Some higher range people offer free snacks. Almost all have some free games.
Some day care providers ask for the person to sign a contract stating some conditions incl. over time after 44 hrs a week, 2 weeks paid vacation a year etc..
Also it was found that there is a fine of $5 for every 15 mins. late.
I went to see a child care provider who was willing to do it for $100 a week with snacks. They women looked abused with blood stains all over her dress and she was so overweight that she could not walk properly. Besides they were smokers + they were planning to get pets. I backed off.
I have zero'ed on a child care provider (muslim + hindi) who is happy to take the wage of $35 a day with no food but free games and lots of love.
Just my rant for the benefit of CD members and also just my view. This process of day care provider finding is my way of finding out and nothing is set in stone.
