Yeah MI and Garvo... I do agree with you guys when it comes to Transit System...but I think in GTA Mississauga have the second best transit system... although you can not compare it with TTC.

Thanks and regards.

I fully agree Misthar India! One should look at 905 area only after buying a car, and having somewhat stable job in that area!

Garvo/MI, are you 416ers challenging us 905ers? :D (Btw, this is my 416th post)

If one looks at Mississauga in isolation, it is a great place to be. but when compared to Toronto ,a new immigrant can be much more productive in Toronto than in mississauga in looking for opportunities, and is a great place to start off from.

Could someone please explain 905 areas versus 416 areas, and also which locations are included in "Toronto" - I guess Scarborough, York, etc. but please clarify for the benefit of some Junior desis like myself.

Thanks and regards

Margo,
416 (phor bun shix, as a bihari would say :D ) is Toronto area code, 905 ( naine jeero phibe:D ) is the phone code for surrounding cities. Mississauaga, markham etc.

If you want to undestand the topography better look for a map in the net or try http://www.viewit.ca." rel="nofollow">LINK

Normally 416 area (Toronto and areas little beyond toronto ) has great transit system and is connected by TTC subway. Other areas have their own bus transit system but it is nothing as compared to what u get in Toronto.
Hope this helps.

Margo
Toronto has two area codes 416 and 647 (toronto includes the city of Toronto, Scarborough, North York, York, etc) Calls made to and from Toronto and other cities within GTA , called 905 area too( Oakvill, Mississauga, Brampton, Celedon, Vaughn, Woodbridge, Maple, Concord, Richmond Hill, Markham, Ajax, Pickring, Oshawa, etc) are considered as local calls.

Where as calls between "905" area may or may not be a local call. For Example call from Mississauga to and from Brampton would be a local call and call from Mississauga to Richmond hill, Markham, Oshawa, Ajax, pickring would be a long distance call.

Basically calls made to your neighboring cities would be considered as local call and beyond that it would be considered as long distance call, regardless same area code.

I hope I did not confuse you more, did I ?:p

Thanks and regards.

While I do agree with MI that transit system is better in TO than in Mississuaga, the biggest factor is what kind of occupation is one expecting to be engaged in. Toronto is good mainly for office jobs, (though there are small factories too), but due to the fact that Mississuaga has more factories (and therefore appetite for more workers), and is a faster developing city in terms of creation of jobs, chances are that new immigrants will get more jobs in Mississuaga than in Toronto.

If that be the case, will it not be easier to stay in Mississuaga and commute within the city than to commute from TO and pay double fares? I was very surprised, but I have been denied many a jobs by agencies offering jobs in Mississuaga simply because I live in Vaughan and according to them it is a long commute even by car to Mississuaga where factories start work at 7.30 am or 8 latest - and I am talking about accounting jobs in offices, not labour jobs!

And unfortunately, I have found that quantity of jobs available to new immigrants is much less in Toronto, or Scarborough, or York when compared to that in Mississuaga.
