I & my family have pr for canada and currently working in gulf(middle east). Electrical engineer by profession . I know as everybody says it is best to find a job and then quit and relocate to canada. most likely soln is take 1 month break and search for the opptys there.

My question is 1 month sufficient to find good job? i have also posted my resume with some of the online job agencies in canada(for last 3 months ) and i feel till date response isvery lukewarm and even the couple i got for interview calls.. they wanted to meet me in person first for which i couldn't go.

The concern is that i am consuming my pr time outside canada and worried that i dont get back in time i may not be able to retain myr canadian pr status. hence the only option you have you "quit and go" and be ready to face challenges of relocating to canada.

Guess what? I am in the same boat too.... but a civil Engineer. Perhaps we could find an answer to this question in tandom. I am also confussed with the results of my job applications. No calls till now. So if this is the case what will I do in Canada? Go work in a gas stn? or a supermarket.

Atleast I know one Civil Engineer who did real good ground work (Interview preperation, Market survey) etc.., and recieved handful of offers from different companies and enjoyed choosing the best and suitable.

Considering the Winer Olympics and Alberta's oil boom, I still see there should be lot of Engineering oppurtunities... Pls try to network with some "POSITVE" folks in Civil Engineering field.

Stay away from some Civil Engineering folks who have just dedicated their lives to crib about Canada, Canadian Economy, Canadian weather, Canadian this, Canadian that......

Good luck folks..

Don't expect replies (for your job applications) while you are in gulf or any other place (other than Canada). Even if you had applied in India or US or any other place, the result would have been same.

There are many people who want to go back to India from Canada and trying to apply for jobs in India, but still the results are same as yours experience (exceptions are everywhere). Mind it most of these people have good experience in India while you don't have any experience in Canada while applying from gulf.

Yes, finding job is very difficult in civil or electrical or mechanical engg. But if you are ready to try (& do whatever is required) and have patience, then chances are you might be able to get something in your field in couple of years or might be happy doing something else. If you want to come here, please be ready for struggle & don't think in months, think in years.

If you have any particular question, you can send PM to me. I am a Mechanical Engineer.

Make sure you guys have sufficient bank balance before you come here so that you don't have to rush into survival jobs.
