You can go to Equifax or Transunion website (canadian sites) and you can get all the required details. I think the Link posted by Pramod (in his earlier message) is for equifax.

Hello,

I was told by one unknown Go bus co passenger that the mortgage limit is approximately 3 times of the gross salary................subject to full filling all other conditions ..........................is it right?

If only one person is working, is it disadvantage to get a good mortgage amount say 500 k

Yes! And it could go up to 3.5 times gross salary if the person does not have much debts and the interest rates are low.

If only one person is earning and can afford the mortgage for $500 K or more, then I do not think there is any disadvantage. However, depending on his income type ( for example self employed or having home office) it could be even beneficial to him as he might be in a position to write of mortgage interest etc.

Dear Pramodji,
How to get "Free report"? I checked all the sites, they all offer reports for a cost (about $15).
Thanks a lot

In the first page of this thread I have posted a link that will take you to Equifax Canada's website. From there you can request a free report. This report would not have the credit score (beacon or fico score) but would give you the details of all the cards, loans and credit lines you have showing the names of the financial organization, date of opening the account, present balance and how you have been paying ( whether in time as agreed or late). For ordering this free report, you would have to print a form from their website, fill in the required information and fax it to them along with 2 pieces of ID. These could be your bell bill, copy of driving license and your bank statment etc. and they will mail out the detailed report at your address. The report with credit score would cost you around $24 plus taxes and can be bought over the net. However, for a general person a free report would suffice.

Here are the links again.
