can a employer lay off a employee if he or she is on short term disability and the insurance covering the employee does not support the claim?
can the employer force the employee to return to work?
will the employee get benefits that have been denied for short term disability?
if anyone can pls answer these questions.

Should not happen. In such case the employee can take legal action.
Always have written communication regarding the reason for absence. Each company has it's own policies. (For my company, two days of sick leave are fine. On 3rd day, the person have to communicate, may be with a doctor's report. If the employee fails, then yea, the company can lay off that person)
If you cannot prove that you informed your employeer regarding the reason for absence, then you'r in big trouble.

Employee can make the person return to work, if:
. work load demands that person. And the employee is on vacation (vacation. and not sick or disable)

If the insurance does'nt cover, then it does'nt cover.
