Oh yeah!
Haven't you seen some driving Taxi's for a living or doing Pizza Delivery and waiting for years to get a residnecy spot. Not all doctor's get a break and it is more difficult for foreign trained doc's to get residency. Ontario has around 3000 foreign trained doc's with only 190 recidency seats per year. Agreed taht some of them are from Africa and other under developed nations.

And that's what I mean by doing your homework. I'm sure these figures are available on the internet even from these doctor's home countries!

Any why does the Govt. of Canada do it's homework and give Zero marks to the profession of medicine during the immigration process.
So this ultimately means that they still paint a rosy picture about doctors getting good jobs in Canada/ON/GTA.
I know what they would write in their website :
"Although it is becoming harder for foreign trained doctors to get a residency spot in Ontario, The Hon. Minister of Health has assured the forein trained doctor community that their govt. has a vision of giving every foreign trained doctor a residency spot by 2008. The Govt. Of Canada has set aside 80 Million dollars for this".
The govt. website never give the true answer. I have been hearing stuff from 2002 that the govt. is going to remove the barriers for foreign trained professional. They even set aside a sizable amount og money last year and hey! it is 2006. Nothing has happened yet.

Can you show me even one page on the Govt. of Canada website(s) where they "paint a rosy pictures about doctors getting a good job in Canada?" This crap about the Govt. "misleading" immigrants is fast becoming a cliche

DT,
When the site was down, i was browsing and i found many link. SInce i am busy at work, i shall update this post by tonight.
I did go through the Canadian medical website and they have updated it / Changed it to better reflect the plight of Doctors in Canada. I am sure that in 2002 things would have been different and due to the plight of various foreign trained doctors have reworded it. Similarly the OAA (Architects council), has included some changes ,specifially mentioning registration requirements for foreign trained architects. But they still say that you donot need a license to work in the field of architecture and that there are a lot of job openings in good times which is totally false.

Just a sample from the Human right comission article (The Human rights division does not necessarily need to agree with this article done by a membet):
In the mid-eighties, when immigration levels were at their lowest (about 85,000 compared to the current level of about 220,000, it was reported that “a Working Group of deputy ministers (provincial) stated that at any one time about 700 graduates of foreign medical schools are seeking internships – 400 in Ontario” (McDade, 1987.) Ontario restricted the licensing of foreign medical graduates from 323 in 1985 to 24 per year after 1989 (Basaran and Zong, 1998:19). In 1996 Ontario had guaranteed every medical graduate from the province an internship position. However, there were only 24 internships for an estimated 500 foreign-trained physicians who had passed the required Canadian examination (Ibid: 8).

According to a recent report, (India Abroad, August 11, 2000, p.39) there were 456 vacancies for general and family practioners in 108 communities of Ontario. At the same time there are several hundred physicians who cannot practice their profession in Ontario. Even if they pass the required examinations, they cannot find sufficient number of internships. It is said that the Government of Ontario is to strengthen the International Medical Graduate Program at the University of Toronto from 24 to 36 seats. Several other provinces have taken steps to fast track the accreditation process for foreign-trained physicians. Not Ontario, the richest province where physicians are needed badly to save lives while the foreign-trained physicians drive taxis for a living!

I tried to get the points for a doctor. They have removed it from the requirements. Now people need to apply irrespective of the profession . So a doctor is treated the same as an IT engineer, or a engineer or a master in arts/ Science. So i applied thinking that i was a doctor and i got 78 points for a min. of 67. CIC has only information for prof. engineer and prof. nurse and not for medical doc's or Dentists.

Dude! I'm not saying that there ain't a problem. The point is, it is NOT the Canadian Government's fault if a doctor (or engineer or anybody else) doesn't do his research regarding his prospects before blindly moving to Canada.

For the last time, it's not Canada's fault if a FOB lands here expecting a Limo waiting at the airport; Canada offers a fresh start not a bed of roses.
