TK : Very few People consider moving to Canada because lack of jobs in IT.
Now a days lot of people go back to India and then take short term assignments in Europe or south east asia or just work from India and enjoy.
Salaries are good in India especially in IT area(Somewhere close 10 lakhs for someone with 10 years of experience)
Now a days lot of the companies offer lot of facilities and they also offer work from home options etc.

I don't get your defination of hard work ?

:D there must be some flaw in this solution. Or else it would have been implemented way before the needs were raised.

Sorry,
It should have read "IT a profession where there is not hard PHYSICAL work"
I will correct my earlier post too.

Sure TK,

Here is what I think, As you said US certainly lacks highly talented american workforce (relating to IT), we all know of it, otherwise there would not have been H1-B s in the country in large numbers.

The reasons are;
> Their education system is really not upto mark to produce IT skilled
personnel. and Not many are interested in pursuing these courses.
> Not many Americans go for higher education (again realting to IT)
> Off Those who pusue higher education - do get into some other fields like
space technologies, research and developement in those lines. and some
into Medical lines and other trades
> Another reason why Americans are not more into IT is - unlike your comment

IT jobs , particularly the development activity requires lots of hard work and brain drain, becasue of logical thinking etc and tonnes of coding - which is keying on the keyboards. - which really takes heavy toll on an individual.
--- And Americans are scared of this and are reluctant to do this kind ogf jobs. There are very very few who do this, otherwise most of them want only high paying white color jobs like project management / leaderhip roles. which are not toom many left out there.
-- And American businessses need more and more of the development work as well, and hence need high tech and HARD working personnel.

Just think if everybody is a manager then who will develop and work?

So this is what is happening in USA - I have seen and experienced this personally in all my US experience and still coming accross with these white color Good for nothing managers.

But now they are alos realizing these and who knows changes might come, but things will NOT change until they ( American Workforce change their attitude.
- Have you gone thru What the President is emphasizing now a days, to improve the education system with more focus on Math and Science.

Hope this answers your curiocity.

N,
Excellent answer. I did not know how i could not come up with this conclusion before your post.
As already done, i have edited my post (and mean it) by saying that IT does not require hard physical work (such as a construction worker would do).
Thanks once again. I am sure that your post would have helped people who donot know much for IT people.
TK
Sidenote : One of my desi friend in NY (4 years ago) had a manager who did not know what IT was about. Every day, he would offer a free ride home to the desi (1 hr. journey) on the condition that he should teach him the basics of IT/ development role in this period of time.

There is nothing wrong in applying for immigration when on H1B and GC is a distant dream within the H1B extensions. I am pretty sure that most have done their groundwork (thanks to CD) before coming to Canada. Note that Canadian system has a security in the form of health, etc. If u r laid off on H1B, u r on your own wrt health ins.

I dont know if someone is on H1B and gets laid off, would they be able to collect their unemployment benefits? But here u can collect EI if u have completed x amount of hours a year. I know a desi lady here who works for the federal govt through agencies for 5-6 months and collects EI rest of the year.

Hopefully IT folks from USA look at the ground realities abt relocating to Canada. They could think abt ME and Far East where they is good money. And finally settle down in des at a senior position.
