Hello CD members,
I spoke to my IT friend working at JP Morgan and he told me a troubling thing (not for me). He told me that many IT people in their 7th. or 8 th year of H-1B visa in the USA (Desi's and Asians) have all applied to immigrate to Canada esp. GTA, Vancouver, Calgary and Montreal. He said thae we can start expecting them soon. Not only will IT people come but also people of other professions working on the 7th. and 8 th. year of H-1B visa and without Green card (For eg. Architects, engr's, Teachers, Nurses, Doctors etc..). however Non It people will not ne that much in comparision.
Now my question is this? Although there is no exact stats. will this affect IT salary levels and working conditions? Will more and more IT people find it harder to get a job. Also many IT people with Canadian passport are crossing the border to USA/Europe. Does this mean that IT people mainly come to Canada to safeguard their interests? Will these people move out of Canada once they get citizenship. Fortunately with the PR cards we are done with the double dipping persons .
Your comments please.
Please note that all my statements are just observations and not set in stone. Just like many of you, i just want to know if the statement given by my friend and my observations are valid. I am not insulting or degrading anyone. I am just interested in knowing the truth.

Anybody who has not been to the US would do anything to move south of the border.
You cannot compare two objects unless you have equal exposure to both and you will always think of more greener grass there.

:D is'nt that on your to-do-list ? :D
typically it takes approx 4 yrs for citizenship. Within these 4 yrs either you establish yourself or you refuse to improve yourself and continue complaining.
Either way, it's individual's choice. But running away from problems is no solution.
Move anywhere, anytime, but never move just to avoid your current problems.

I can see a lot of applicants for PR, based on what TK says. However, as long as the number of entrants allowed per year remains constant (250,000?), all these surge of applicants only create a huge processing backlog and several years to obtain PR rather than a surge of immigrants into the country in any one year.

If most applicants are in IT and if most move to the big 3 cities, then yes, supply may outstrip demand (it already has, don't you think, in IT?) and the saga of lack of opportunities in Canada continues.

DT ji,
I am already a Candian citizen and still in Canada.
As said before, i am not disturbed. Maybe IT guys ,ay or may not be disturbed.
As an architect, if a fellow Architect, comes to Canada and canot find the kind of job that he was doing in USA and settles for a labour job for 4 years, what is it to me? Is the govt. going to give some lump sum to Architects or what?
And if i move, i will move to the gulf, Europe, SE asia, Aussie land , NZ and not to India.
I saw sarcasm in your reply and hence this note.
As my friend in Architecture (born in a village and does not know much english) often says :" Justice never failure".

Hello guys!
This is another thing which i have thought about for 4 or 5 years now.
My brother gets 70K working in an IT company in NC and he is an IT professional. Many people in USA consider this as a very good salary and IT is a profession where there is no hard physical work.
Now It has been in vouge for around 10 years now. Why is the USA not producing its own software engineers by subsidising IT education/ Encouraging people to study IT? If these "Gora's" had been smart from about 10 years ago, they would have got local candidate to fulfil their demands. And salso they would not be pestering Bush to Increase H-1B quota. Though outsourcing is a common practice, i still find that USA still needs on shore software engineers in plenty.
I am not insulting any one or trying to do so. Just wanted to understand why it is actually happening.
Even now may not be too late for USA people.
TK
Sidenote : I am also a qualified software engineer. Just also thinking if i should change my profession to that. I came to Canada, plannign to do software but changed my mind since Canada does not hire freshers. I also came in the bust period of 2002. If prospects look good, i may lookin that direction.
