Nikhil,

What I have read is that animals are supposed to be stunned. Due to budget restrictions animals are slaughtered on an assembly very quickly. Not every animal is unconscious when they begin the cutting. What was worse was reading that inspectors dont check EVERY animal and many diseased animals get through. Rancid meat is colored with food coloring to look 'fresh' or marinated before being put on store shelves.

Thats why I gave it up. I didnt want to take the chance.

Another problem I found when i researched about slaughterhouses. chickens pigs and cows are fed not 'high quality grain ' but ground up bits of meat that is not fit for human consumption.

Chickens live their lives in cages crowded and generally dont have room to move around. Baby cows in small dark cages with no room to sit or ever see sunlight = Veal. Pigs are stunned and then thrown into vats of boiling water to remove their skins easier. Sometimes stunning doesnt work and they are conscious.

Sorry to sound like an animal rights propoganda film. However My research got me to swear off meat for good.

:)

Nikhil -> Animals are 5 sensed animals as i told you before. Please start eating them .They will nourish you well.
In India, Hindu's wring the neck of chicken so that blood is clotted and hence gives a taste to the meat.
Muslims and Christians, cut the neck to draw blood out (as instructed in the holy books) so that the meat is blood free.
As a boy of 14 years of age, i have cut the neck of many chickens and have cleaned and cut them to pieced. belive me, it is not as cruel as you think.
Sorry for deviating from the essence of CD forum. I could not prevent myself from answering to his post and therby increasing his knowledge. I had posted some more explanation but have edited them b'cos it was not conforming to CD's Objectives.

TK Saab here’s my 2 cents on this matter

Nikhil ->
Before i start giving you a reply, let me just differentiate between India and Canada. All replies is just my opinion
India-> 1 billion population. It has been exploites systamatically by various rajs' mughal and finally the british. Owing to the massive population, lack of computers (50 years ago), high scale corruption delveloped.

So why doesn’t India control its population? Isn’t it because people have belief in age old religious practices that they won’t use birth control measures. They believe that God will take care of the kids, so how come we see so many homeless starving kids?

And by the way where was God when the tsunami killed more than two hundred thousand people? Doesn’t China control its population and how come the extent of corruption is much less there?

Canada-> Virtually unpopulated before the "Gora's" invaded this country. Rich in all resources. Virgin land. "Gora's" brought democracy. Were backed by british. Low population, High GDP.Rich is lumber which was used to build the first buldings. Rivers and lakes aided in Transportation.
Conclusion : You canot equate India and Canada. But India has done pretty well when compared to many african countries, richer than India. Take for e.g. _> namibia, zimbabwe, Zaire, Burkina Faso, Nigeria,Uganda etc... You have to give credit for it.

Isn’t India well endowed with resources too? So who takes advantage of the system? Thugs like the sandalwood thief Veerappan. And wasn’t he protected by the politicians in India? Why can’t we have high speed trains in India? Aren’t you aware of the extent of corruption which goes on in Indian railways? Here I don’t have to pay a BRIBE to purchase a ticket.

Now to your mail -> I donot want to go in detail about the caste system but my view is that when the upper caste had the upper hand for centuries drawing the backward classes backward, what is wrong in the backer classes forced to have the upper hand for some centuries from 50 years back. Sure, Some of the upper classes will be supressed and some of the lower classes will have no means to come up despite the reservation. There has to be a fine line to divide this which is currently based on politics. But hey! despite who you are you still have free education (up to secondary), free lunch in schools (mid day meals), free medical for you, your cow and your dog (with a 1 billion population).

How many students died when the fire hit a school in Tamil Nadu??? How many students died when the school bus fell off the bridge in New Delhi?? What’s the point in getting free education if the safety of your life is not guaranteed?

Backward classes have rich people in their community and so do the upper classes. so what is the big deal in rich people paying capitation fees. I know many people from backward classes having lakhs of money to pay for any capitation fees and i also know many people from the upper classes capable of doing this. So there is no distinction based on the caste/class.

Aren’t you aware of the term CLASS DISTINCTION?? Does it mean that only children of corrupt and rich government employees get admitted to professional courses? What about students whose parents are honest and poor??

People who have done Bsc./B.a/B/com and a 3 month computer course are sucessful IT engineers in USA and across the world. So what is wrong with a fake degree. If you have mettle you can go ahead in any place. As BL said, a degree or doctorate is a paper but having common sense is another. In my experiences i have heard fewer irregularities in India than in Canada / USA regarding fake courses and of course certificates.

Try to get a P.Engg here in Canada with a 3 month course. GOD BLESS YOU in your venture.

Yeah the guys who set up Google were foolish to do their Master’s in Stanford, they should have done a 3 month course in India. Isn’t Infosys India’s best known software company and dosen’t Narayan Murthy hold a Masters in Engineering from IIT. For your information there is a difference in the term computer engineers and computer professionals.

Belive me when i say that Canadian employers are totally Ignorant of any Immigrant's capabilities. They think that anyone outside Canada is from a land of snakes and pigs.

DO YOU KNOW THE NUMBER OF PATENTS WHICH INDIA PRODUCES EVERY YEAR???

You say that you will not consider people who paid capitation fees or having been educated by reservation to be of the profession that they were educated, so when you left india by plane, did you ask if the pilot was educated under the Indian reservation system and if he was that you will refuse to travel in the plane b'cos he was not educated according to your belef's and was therefore substandard in your opinion. Do you ever visit india and what do you do to ensure your peace. What about the postman who visits your house in india to deliver mail. Did you ask him if he was a guy from lower class? Anytime a doctor needs to operate on any of your family member, will you ask him if he was educated under the reservation system and if he was arrange to fly them to USA/Canada for the operation? is this practical? Even the " Gora's" displaced the aboriginals. So do you feel cheesed off about it? Everything needs to be looked with common sense yarr!

I don’t fly by Air India because I love my life. For your kind information I will give you a piece of advice. Last month the SAME Air India plane had to do emergency landing on 3 occasions because of landing tire problems. Doesn’t it speak volumes of their safety record?

Regarding buildings : Building in Canada/USA (residences) are considered with wood. So it is likely to catch fire or be blown off by wind. In India, we build strong houses out of concrete and brick which can last for decades. The reason why building collapse (if at all any) will be due to earthquakes, poor quality of construction, unstable foundation, low or high reinforcements.

So you do agree that its because of poor quality of construction, faulty designs that lead to building collapse. Aren’t there regulatory authorities in India who are supposed to check the quality of construction after its completion? Or are they bribed too???

Isn’t Japan in a Seismic zone?? How many of their buildings collapse because of earthquakes?? And God forbid what will happen if a hurricane hits Indian cities.

Maybe you aren’t aware of what happened on 26th July last year. Our technologically advanced India couldn’t predict the weather conditions and more than a 1000 lives were lost. I am sure it’s because the guys who work in the meteorological department there have done a 3 month course.

Cheers,

Nikhil

MR,

Don't they use captive bolts for cattle, carbon monoxide/ electric shocks for pigs and chickens here?

Don’t the animal right activists secretly videotape and take action in case if any slaughter house if found to be in violation of the rules?

Aren't slaughter houses here designed so that the animal being slaughtered is not seen by other animals awaiting their turn?

At least they don't wring chicken necks or slit goats neck in front of other goats like the way they do in India. And what I have read is pigs are slaughtered in India by having a hot pointed iron rod pierced into their (apologies for using that word but I want to paint a clear picture) till it punctures their heart.

And all this in the land of Gandhi the apostle of peace.

Peace,

Nikhil
