hello CD,
We all knows that we should give tip to waiter.But before few days I came to know that many Indian resturant owners keep to them self they dont share even penny with waiter or other staff that shocked me.
Then I ask to other friend who is working in Indian resturant he told me same thing that owner keep that tip in his pocket.
Now,I would think two time before i tip to any Indian restaurant.
What you guys comment on this issue that should we tip if we know that tip is going to owners pocket or not??

I recently visited the most famous Indian buffet restaurant in Brampton and was requested to pay before serving (since they were closing soon) and also, when I paid with my chequing card, I was forced to enter a tip amount even if did not want to...the screen wouldnt move to the next menu for entering the pin to complete the transaction...
I would prefer to tip at the end, to the waiter and at my will..not forced.

In most of the restaurants the wait staff work on Minimum wages and hence their only source of livelihood is through tips.
Many a times the tips are shared in a pyramid fashion right from the guy at the front desk to the dish washer.
Guys and Gals, please tip handsomely as their lives depend on it.
Now the issue is how is it in Desi restaurants. Most of the Desi restaurant owners do not care for their staff. Because you have plenty of new highly skilled immigrant who want A JOB for survival. Many times they are MBA's and engineers who have never worked in a restaurant and who need a job to survive. Most of the Desi restaurant owners keep the tips for themselves. This is free money with out Taxation. For example $500 is equal to S$660 tax paid. They can pay the salary of the illegal/cash employees who work at $8 per hour.
On a good day in a Gora restaurant the tips might total any place from $1500 to $5000(LLBO). The wait staff would take home from $10 to $150 per day.
Hence my suggestion is that you pay cash to your waiter, when the owner is not looking. The waiters have a way for distributing with in themselves. If you do it when the owner is looking at, the waiter will lose his job.
You should pay a minimum TIP(To Insure Prompt Service)of 15% of the Gross bill.

I agree with you Sankarachya but I am upset with Indian restaurant owner who earns more than enough money still look at waiters tip.They are just abusing peoples thats just i wanted to say.
