Hi All

I dont have a lot of experience with recruiters in my day to day work so I thought id put my query out to CD'ers :)

Do you know if someone applies through a recruiting company and then is told by one of their recruiters that 'dont even bother to apply for jobs on your own we've got so many' and THEN when the applicant tries to contact the recruiter for follow up is ignored, emails unanswered and when they call told that the person is on the other line (continoually) whether this person

a) is being given a run around?

b)was just given a 'pitch' at the beginning

c) The recruiter has decided this person is not worth placing and is trying to lose them?

or d) other... (and what could it be?)

Thanks a lot!

It is (a), (b) and (c).

I have applied to many recruiters and my experience is neutral. I even started a similar thread on this topic. Check this http://www.canadiandesi.com/read.php?TID=12328

Isnt that very unprofessional behavior? Why not simply say "sorry we'll call you if something comes up" instead of making grand claims?

This is possible if the recruiter has already forwarded someone else's resume and badly need a backup (plan B)
The recruiter can't confirm anything to you and at the same time does'nt want to let you go.

I fully agree with your comments. It is donot displease anyone attitude. They will keep happy to job-hunter in case they have something for this job-hunter few days or weeks down the line. My friend had applied to a recruitment agency 6 months ago when he was looking for a job. He registered and never heard from them for 6 months. After 6 months they called and he got an excellent opportunity thru them.

If recruitment agencies have a position suitable to you, they will find you even if you have not applied to them. They will find you on Workopolis. They want to satisfy their client and collect their commission.
