Hello Guys!
JUst wanted to share what happened to me today and i feel bad for it.
The guy whose house i messed up came to our offcie today. He is around 60 years old. He came and asked me how i was doing his other houses and when he will get it from me. I did not do many but i told him on Monday (though i canot give all to him on Monday). Since i was afraid that he will shout, i told him Monday. He spoke with my boss and came back with him after 10 minutes and another partner of our office. They were speaking near my open desk. So when he was near me, i was really tense and i just was scratching my head. Immediately our client asked : " Why are you scratching your head instead of working on my houses". I donot know what i felt but insticnctly i said " I am waiting for you to leave". My boss and the partner laughed and the clients face turned red. He did not know what to say but he was really insulted. My boss told him " He has a sense of humour just like you". He did not say anything but left. I felt very bad. I felt very bad when my boss came and said " You handled him very well". The reason i felt bad, was that he was a older person. I have never insulted an old person in my whole life. I felt very sorry but what to do.I already said those words.
Do CD's think that i should apoligise the next time he comes?
I am sure that next time i make a mistake, he will make a big show out of it. My boss is feeling that i will leave the office since i have been working non stop for the last 2 months and every times he sees me , i scowl. He told me not to take the client seriously as others in the office would.
Just wanted to share this with you regarding my office.
TK

Stating the obvious here but:

You are in a toxic work situation and are stuck in the role of 'victim'
A professional counsellor may be able to help.

You may not take yourself seriously and I know many others dont take you seriously (sorry but its apparent).

Your career and/or job is in trouble.

take action asap.

MR,
Thanks for the concern and the post.
By professional counsellor , do you mean a medical or an employment consellor? BTW, i am a consultant.
Actually, i posted the particular post not to tell my personal story (as it is not the objective of the forum) but only to relate an example of a person affected in a Canadian office. I also posted this to know , how i should behave in this case like ignoring the incident, asking sorry etc... I think that this would help new immigrants to understand the work culture/ decency in the Canadian workspace. The client that i was talking to you is an Italian Canadian. He might have come to Canada 40 years back (he is around 60).
I am not afraid of losing my job. I have thought about other alternatives and am prepared for it.
TK
Sidenote : My boss is more afraid of losing me than i of losing him.

By professional counsellor I meant a clinical counsellor or psychologist or therapist.

Look up "Toxic" and "codependancy" on google.

MR,
Thanks a lot for the word. I googled it and guess what? I found that a person in my office who might be suffering from that problem and so i will give him print outs of what i found about it in the internet. It will be up to him to decide what to do. He is around 40 years and does not talk much to anyone. I tried to ask him as to why he actually came to Canada but he was not willing to share that information with me. Since he is Indian, i will not be offending him when i give the material that i found on the site. I will update you by PM about the progress in the situation.

Hello Members!
Based on the input and recommendations of many people in this forum, I am glad to inform you that i have decided to look for a new job from Today. For the past 2 years (due to work pressure) i had not been able to look/ apply for jobs. But for quite sometime , i have felt that i was exploited by the company that i work for. I work 10-14 hrs. a day, normally 7 days a week, get paid $13 per hour for 37.5 hrs. a week only. It is not worth it. I was sticking to this job also b'cos i was allowed to use the internet during work. But this job is not upgrading my professional experience with time. I am doing the same work day in and day out. There is no challenge (in terms of varities of projects and work) in this work.
I shall be concentrating mainly in the GTA and apply through Ontario asso. of Architects, Workopolis and HRDC Job Bank.
I hope that my experiences will be mentoring other Junior/ unemployed architects/under employed architects in this forum who look towards me for guidance (I know atleast 4 of them).
I have passed Legal exam of OBC and I will put this in my resume along with a note saying that i know Part 9 of OBC (though i have not written and passed the exam, i know every law in it from my drafting experience).
I shall also be applying to Curtain wall/ Structural Glazing companies offering openings as i have some experience in this field from Saudi Arabia.
I hope CD will encourage my stand.
TK
Side note : To certify house drawings you need to Pass Legal Exam and part 9 of the OBC. I have passed Legal exam but have not written part 9 of the OBC. In my resume , i will write that i know part 9 of the OBC since i am aware of all things in it but have not formally written and passed the exams. In Canada, i would not want to certify any drawings. If something happens and someone sues you then you will be in Soup.
