This is interesting. How come they could go thru in the Toronto airport? Are the so lax in the airport? Would they be allowed in the port of entryin India with expired passports?
(Indian passport has no value?)

In final analysis when one is going to India on Indian passport, one is just returning home. So except severe frowns and some delay and detention I would not expect anything severe, especially in case of kids.
But notwithstanding the above, I would never like to do it.
It would be nice to know what actually happened on landing in India.
DIO and others,
In toronto, the immigration never checks the passport. The guy who checks you in at the counter, sees and verifies (mostly) only the name. The second check is be4 you board the aircraft by the airline crew (and not immigration or govt. employees). These guys also only check the name of the passenger on the passport and compare it to the name on the boarding pass. They donot stamp the exit date on the passport.
I just called the individual (father- while wife and 2 kids left canada mostly never to return again , atleast the kids) and informed him that it will be the airlines responsibility if anything goes wrong. They will only reach india in about 8 hrs. from now and i will update you on what happened.

hello!
I told the above situation to an Egyptian in my office (Egypt allows Dual Citizenship which means the holder can have Canadian Passport + Eyptian Passport). He told me his story which happened a year before.
He had left Canada with an expired egyptian passport and he had informed the immigration officer (in egypt) his predicament. The Immigration officer said that for entering his country of citizenship, it did not matter if his Egyptian passport was expired and he allowed him into the country (please note that in case his expired passport was illegal to the country, he should have had an Egyptian visa stamped in his Canadian Passport- which he did not have). While leaving Egypt, he did not renew his egyptian passport but showed the Canadian passport for his exit. He then got it renewed in Canada.

Hello guys!
Those people landed at Bangaloe airport and cleared the immigration without any problems. No one stopped them. They said that the immigration people only checked the name on the passport and then compared it with the embarkation form and entered details from the embarkation form and let them go.
