How should I go about buying a guitar? What brands are good? I am looking for an acoustic guitar. Price range up to $300.00. What should one look for in a guitar? Where to buy?

I also live in Mississauga and I faced this question 6 months ago.
Have you played a guitar before and learnt any basics?, I did not, hence I took my guitar teacher with me.
The best place to check out is Long&Mcquade music store. They also have music classes. There is also a good guitar shop in the main street of Cooksville town.
The other music store in Square One near Zellers & Sears is Expensive.
I also checked out Sears at Square One.
If you are starting from scratch, it'll take you 3 years atleast with 1 hour of practise per day to play \"Hotel California\" by Eagles.
Hence the options are:
1.You could buy an used guitar from the Cash & Trade which is at the intersection of Dixie and Dundas right next to Laundry.
2.You could buy from Long & Mcquade a basic guitar from Yamaha for which you need to buy a cover, stand and picks.
3.You could buy from Teleshopping network which is on Channel 20 on Rogers. They also sell the Maltaban guitars which come with cover, picks and self learining DVD.
PLEASE NOTE THAT 90% OF THE BASIC GUITARS ARE MADE IN CHINA. Hence you need to take a friend or a teacher who can play on it and hear to the sound. There are higher ended Yamaha guitars which sound great on a professionals hand. They cost double.
I bought a Yamaha entry level which was on sale at Long& McQuade. My teacher played a few and picked this.
If you are a beginner this is the best way to get rid of your unfriendly neighbours !
Good Luck & God Bless!

Speech by Thomas Friedman of The New York Times....
"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were told to eat our
vegetables at dinner and not leave them. Mothers said, 'think of the
starving children in India and finish the dinner.' And now I tell my
children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India
who would make you starve, if you don't.'"
Thanks for all the tips and the helpful suggestions. I may go for a trumpet if I don't succeed in driving my neighbours away with the guitar.
Cheers
