No offence taken.
But i did leave with my employer's letter head, seal and office drawings in Diskette. That is how we generally do.
No employer would like to see his employee leave. This is true in the feild of Building construction. Generally our pay is very less when compared to other professions and not one of the employers like us to leave. You can cross check with other members of this board who work in a Architect's office. When you tell them that you will leave, they will say that they will increase the salary. if you are a fool to accept it, they will continously nag you and discipline you for any mistake you do. This is even true in Canada and with my present employer. A talented architect said taht she is leaving. She was getting $12 an hour. My boss said that he will give her more (the boss is a Canadian employer and this happened in toronto). she refused and left. Then he said that she stole the office drgs. It is true for every country, incl. India and that is why i hate the profession of architecture.
While i was in L&T, Chennai, an architect commented to me that in L&T, even a clerk gets more respect than an Architect. The reason, i belive is that we do drawings which are documented. So it is always very easy to nail the architect for any mistake.
Any architect can despute my view. I am sure no one will. I had spoken to some architects who are members of this forum and everyone hates this profession. There are only a few talented and creative architects who love and live for this profession. unfortunately i am not one of them.
Just my feelings

I do like what I am doing.
Yes, my job is just an extension of my educational background.

And I do agree, as any thing on this planet, it has it's own ups and downs ;) But hey, that's life !

A lil observation. There is a traditional saying in gujarati language. I'll translate it: "Crows are black everywhere".

And as M_R said, you never know when you are gonna use the bridge .. !

Hold on! When u say that is how we generally do, whom r u referring to? Indians? Canadians? All Architects? What will u do with those items? Blackmail the employer? Steal the clients? Man, u r something. I can never think of taking something from my employer (I have changed four jobs in north america).

Do u work in a sweatshop? Looks like all are paid by the hour.

my wife thinks taht Canada is the best place for Doctors and raising up children.

My wife does not like to be in India of all places.

So your wife has already decided that your kids should become doctors in Canada? If that does not happen, then what? Your wife will go nuts and end up taking anti depressents.

Where was your wife born? Canada? Europe? USA?

When i said it, it meant all architects.
In architects office, no one leaves with a good relationship.
Either the employee feels that that employer has cheated them or vice versa.
In any architects office (99%) no one gives you the refernence. They evaluvate you by your portfolio. So how do you make the portfolio when the empoyer does not give you any of your works?. Also you need your employment letter for immigration, loans etc.. What do you do when your employer refuses?
I think everyone cheats. Some tell. Some donot.
TK
Sidenote: my wife was born in india (TN)
By doctor, i meant the free medical treatment given in Canada. I never have the money to make my daughter a doctor in Canada (as of now)
sidenote 2: all letter heads, seals, drawings are for the next job, immigration etc... As a matter of principle, i never use these to falsify something but only to what i am entitled.
and DIO, do you know one thing. Generally architects who are fired from their office donot get employment letter, drawings etc.. and if they have not got it beforehand, they generally wait outside the office for their old office colleuges to come out and then they request for copies of drawings, letter head and all. I have helped so many such people in my short career.

TK,

Hard to believe abt references.

If it's common among architects, wouldn't the potential employer know that the candidate might have stolen the drawings from the existing /previous employer? This may again happen when they hire this applicant.

Wow! what a freaking job.

Every office wants to see what you did in your previous jobs by means of drgs. etc.. but none (99%) give you drawings when you leave. if i begin to write about that it could run into 6 or 7 pages. I donot have the time to rite about that now. if you are interested, PM me your phone number and i can talk to you about it (only if you are interested).
Fellow architects in this forum can please share their experiences about this.
