Hi All,

As Canadiandesi is having such a big membership base I am sure there must be some doctors working here in Canadian Medical Centres as Canadiandesi members. We can ask them to provide expert advise to all our fellow members as we see the medical system here is too much stressed and many of us feel the need of some expert medical advise time and again. Pls tell what you guys feel about it

Thanks,

Anup Mukerjee

Good idea !

I came across a couple of desi people who are here for quite a long time (more than a year or so!) and do not know that they should have family doctor. They are lucky to be healthy but at some point we find a need to have family doctor.

I am not sure we have any doctor here or not. We can start the medical advise section without waiting for having any doctor on the board, however what would be the validity for such advises. Rather we call is "Medical Related Issues" and not "Advise", so anybody can contribute.

Hi Lana2005!
what is your opinion on how the medical system works in Canada? Is it to your satisfaction? Is is good when compared to the amount of Tax dollars spent on healthcare? Do you get the value's worth? and how would you rate canadian doctors with respect to say indian doctors?

Medical system in canada Vs in india
Doctors in Canada are very cautious because here if something goes wrong they can be sued. So generally they will do lot more tests to diagnose a medical condition. It sometimes gives an impression that they donot know what they are doing. Whereas a docotr in India will diagnose and sometimes misdiagnose the medical condition. The cost and time of diagnosing the medical condition in India is less as the docotr goes with his knowledge, experience and gut feeling. However, in some big cities in India, i donot trust the doctors. They will never explain your condiiton to you and they may ask some unnecessary tests so that they or their other docotr friends can make money. I am not sure if the doctors in India get a referral fee from testing laboratories. Having said this i do get medical advice in India because I get it from a family member and donot have to worry about doctor trying to conn me. I get free advice and medicines too. However, for certain situations, i have taken advice from Canadian doctor and a second opinion from an Indian docotr.

As far the cost of healthcare, I would not like to compare indian costs and canadian costs. I compare Canadian system with american system. I like Canadian system. In US if you donot have a job, you donot have a medical coverage. Some people had to declare bankruptcies in their retirements when one of the partner became gravely ill like cancer. In that sense, I think canadian system is better. At least everybody has coverage.
