Ekta
Like you I too was an engineer in India, bought a book to learn french in 30 days and found out that I wasted my time simply.
A few words of French mean nothin here..........you have to be proficient.
Either immerse yourself in it or simply forget it.
If someone from assam comes ot work in maharashtra and tells you that he knows 5 weords of marathi will you give him a job when there are 150 other marathi speaking candidates available?

Now guys, we are back to square one!!!

I don't feel like commenting on Ekta's confidence for getting an IT job on landing.
Ekta, all the best. Make sure you ask for atleast $50K

Dear GC

I am not at all confident on getting IT job on landing, and i am
ready to do any kind of job that will earn me bread and butter.
what I meant was I am software engineer and i don't have any skill
to communicate with people and convince them except programming.

And PLEASE enough of this types of remark for any enthu desi who is
seeking for your Advice, After every two or three post I read such
Comments. Sorry if i sounded rude but its TRUE.

Ekta,

Please understand that you are getting such responses because experienced people in this board are disappointed with the atttitude of the fellow desis. If you want to believe what your immigrant consultant has told you, please go ahead with all confidence in the world. But if you want to know the stark realities of life in Canada, be patient and try to learn from others.

Ekta, let me repeat the facts again as repeated over 100 times by other senior members on this board.
For any IT prof or other prof, there are 3 alternatives on landing
#1........try for a job in your field, if failed
#2.........try for odd jobs(call centre/factory labor,etc...)
#3.........if loaded, sit back and upgrade your skills

Some desis try combo #2&3, but find it difficult. Again depends on your family situation. Some Top desi profs on this board have narrated their experience of labor jobs.....at the end of day you land up physically and mentally exhausted and it's dead end for you.

Call centres are of different types. inbound, outbound and both.
Telemarketing is outbound which kindda sucks but some find it better than factory jobs.
Inbound call centres offer technical, financial, general service depending on the company. Tech support jobs pay $15-20, bilingual french gets more. It is not difficult to learn phone manners or improve listening/verbal skills. This kind of job can lead you to a full-time perm position and also gives opportunity to explore jobs in your field in the same company.

Now tell me Ekta, if you don't get IT job at first shot, would you try out your muscles at factories or sit in front of PC in an office and do some techy stuff??

It's your call now;)

Ekta
it is very easy to type the word any job
it is another thing to work in factories.
If your "enthu" deflates by just one or some remarks of some of us here, then I certainly can see it dissappear within a week of landing here

I had clearly thrown challange to all such people who are saying that they will find or do "any" job once they land here or are confident of finding a job in their chosen field; to start applying NOW for the posting you see in Canadian newspapers and on headhunters site and taste the "pudding" yourself. Find out for yourself how many of such "any jobs' exist in the first place and if someone if gives a damn to your resume, your past experience and your qualifications.
And please let us know as well how many job interview calls you got!
