1. Air India service is much better. Air Canada is crappy on the other hand. Lets not give our national carrier such bad reviews people. Seems to me everyone is really biased here.

2. Indian desi shops arnt all that bad here. In fact i dont go to chinese shops to but my spices or meats. Get your meats in a super market and get your spices in a desi store whre they are meant to be. Yes if u want Bok Choy go to a Chinese store.

3. Dont get any pickled stuff in your luggage. Its a question on the customs form ( do you have any food items) and they will indeed check you. U might have to throw it away then. Dont even get sharm items like forks. knive setc in your hand baggage as these need to be checked in for security reasons. Put them in check in baggage.,

Guys but there is a BIG clause....AIR INDIA allows us to carry 2 bags of 32 kgs each and AIR CANADA allows us to carry only 2bags of 23kgs :( as in accompanying luggage.......

ANY SUGGESTIONS?? we're already blocking AIR CANADA......but is there an experienced voice somewhere??

Hi,
I suggest that you come via Air Canada. Since your objective is not to spend much money in Canada upon landing , you can come in Air India and bring 8 suitcases (32 kg each) and 4 hand luggage. But remember you need to get a 2 bed room house or 2 bed + 1 den (small bedroom) at least. your 8 suitcases will easily take up a one bedroom. or if you still want a one bedroom try a bunk bed for 2 people in the dining room.
Even though Air India's service is not that good for the sake of the extra 40 kg luggage you can come in that and they pay $300 for any suitcase lost or damages (though you may have to fight for a year + to get any money from them).

well, we're sticking to our idea of flying with AIR CANADA itself.......if need be we'll get the rest of the goods by cargo..... or try and adjust in 23+23+10 initially.

i suppose that would b the best soultion....as a journey of 21 hours or more (normally the flight gets delayed!) spent in clumsy seats would do no good for any one of us...and leave us grouchy..

what say eh?

Depends on how you take it. Personally i would opt for a 21 hr. / cruel flight if i can bring 40 kgs. etc.. you will realise the validity of the decision once you start shopping in canada and converting each dollar spent by 36. A coffee is $1, 50 gms. of any spice is $2-$3. A bus ticket costs $2.50.
I am just telling this based on your previous posts asking how to be as cheap as possible by brining oil, wheat etc.. If you can afford to start spending money from day 1 then you need not take the Air India flight.
Just my 2 sen though.
Regards,
TK
