listen mumbaiite guy,
the intent here is not to shatter your bubble but to make you aware of the harsh realities...if i were you i'd not change my resolve or ambitions by what is said on this website.... this is just a forum where people bring their perspectives ...and they are sincerely warning you that things are not as rosy as many of us assume it to be .
does that mean things are very rosy in back home ? ...no ...just prepare yourself to work hardER....life is a struggle in india as well ...better struggle in canada than in india.
never let your dreams and ambitions die down...that will take you where you want to be ... you just have to work for it ...
--------------------
there is a solution to every problem...one only has to work harder to find it.

I am not a immigrant .............
I am just a International undergraduate student in canada ......
Initially I used to dream of working in canada after studies......
Now , after I came across this website , I am shattered
I just wanna finish studies n go back home

Are you there?
Jake and Blue lobster ...
i do not find your comments depressing at all ..yes it is eye opening and little discouraging in the beginning ...but thatis how one feels when one is faced with any bitter truth...
especially when the truth stands to shatter all aspirations and dreams one has been waiting for the last 2-3 years and has put a stable life at home at stake and is about to venture out on his own..there is a great fear of failure because one essentially puts at stake in india everything one has built so far from the groundup..home, job, support structure of family friends...all this just to hope ofr a better future .... but it is better to know the truth and be prepared than get shocked after landing....
i am still excited about coming to canada ..well aware that initial period will be spent at gas stations ...or even washing cars...infact i was even thinking of what would be the choiciest menial job ( but thats another topic)...whatever it is i am ready to take it in the stride and prepared myself for it ...and hope pass thru it with a smile ...depending on how long it takes
please continue to do what you are doing ....it is a great help which you are providing to all new immigrants ...i hope everyone appreciates it ....only sometimes some members are very demeaning and treat new immigrants as pure idiots who know nothing and call names ( form both sides ) ...that is when one feels bad sometimes.
i feel very fortunate to have found this great forum and be able to discuss and share my views with people like you all who are aware of realities in canada and ready to listen and help.
Great discussing with you all ...look forward to more posts.

Working at gas stations(you have to only collect cash!) and washing cars is less painful. There are many painful jobs at factories and you have to do it nonstop, except for the break time and you have to stand for 8 hours. There are other tough jobs like loading/unloading trailers of boxes weighing 40 pounds or more, etc.
Coming from India, you cannot sit idle at home, else it will eat into 10,000 dollars that you bring.

Its a Warning ... it is not discouraging when ... Sunil Gavaskar predicts hard times for India in Australia, on the eve of the team's departure.
New Comers dont say that hey Old brat, you are discouraging us.

Mumbaiteguy,
Like bl says, I hope this is not all it takes to shatter you.
Since you are already here you are in a good position to network and sell yourself. That is a big advantage over many of us...me included. However, you are the only one who can decide how you are going to take and process the information you have been given.
BTW guys I'm just coming back from the recording of a tv interview about an upcoming project. The interview will only (I think) be aired in Montreal on the indo-montreal channel(ch-global). Inspite of my nervousness and fumbling a cpl of times I did manage to put a plug in for canadiandesi.com by mentioning it during the interview. So hopefully we'lll get a few more Montreal folks here, come December.
Mumbaite guy...How's that for positive news from us . From struggling in the future shop warehouse (yep, labour job for sure) when I came in, to hopefully being an employer to many...within a span of 7-8 yrs.
