Hi Everyone,
My cousin wants to come to Canada and become a teacher. She currently teaches MBA in ICFAI in India but i told her that will not be of much use here Was i right?

Also she is interested in teaching pre school children and disabled children
What kind of Education and Training should she pursue? How much time will it take her to become qualified to work?

Thanks,

Hi,

Would you mind clarifying what \\\\\\\"ICFAI\\\\\\\" is?

In order to work with pre school children, she would most likely have to take a ECE (early childhood educator) Diploma. Each college would have a different duration and curriculum however I would estimate an average of 2 years to obtain this diploma.

I dont know the demand for this occupation in Ontario. You/ she should conduct Informational Interviews with other preschool teachers and Early childhood educators as well as talk to the school administration about the demand, working conditions, salaries etc. Generally I recommend anyone wanting to try a new career (different than their past work whether here or abroad) to definately talk to at least 4-5 people that work in the field they are going into.

Good luck.
Hope that helps,

Generally I recommend anyone wanting to try a new career ......

........ may have to give in 3 - 4 years to get a entry level position.

My friend's wife did some study (about 9 months) and got a job with TDSB (on contract for now). She is teaching grade 6.

I don't know the institude where she studied, but it should be easy to find out. Mostly she did it with York University. Call any of the universities and find out what you need to do in order to become a teacher.

I think Chandresh wife also got a job as a teacher. He might help you on this.

Garvo,

I dont believe one needs to do teacher training at the University level (ie/ BEd) to become a preschool teacher. Generally an ECE designation is usually sufficient.

You might be right. I have very little information from where she did it.
