Are people on W1 work permits in Toronto, allowed to do part time jobs? I am working for a software firm, and I would like to work part time to earn some extra income. Am I eligible for part time jobs or is it legally permitted? What kinds of jobs can I take, if I can?

Currently I am working on Work Visa for a software company. I am afraid but we are not eligible to work anywhere other than what your work permit document mentions (your current employer).

Well you can do what I did. I am working part-time on small projects from different businesses but I collect payment in my wife’s name (She is Canadian).

This need to earn part-time.. is it due to lack of proper salaries or to satisfy your quest for better technical work??
If a full-time s/w engineer can't get enough salary.. we are at a sad turn indeed!

Ok, I always thought there were marketing, human resources, accounting departments, transportation elements, etc. in software firms too.....I didnt realise that software firms hire only software engineers until you stuck that tongue out at me!
