An advertisement that I read in Toronto Star yesterday (Oct 13) is reproduced below. Would love to get some reactions on this ad – and a question to all on this board who vehemently pound that to be successful in Canada, we immigrants need to immerse ourselves into the Canadian culture and do things/think in the manner that Canadians do – would such actions also help? I would say this is Canadian thinking – not Indian, simply because I have actually met/seen/heard about people thinking in this manner but I thought that this was an isolated problem. However, this ad shows it is not isolated. So is this another reason to immigrate to Canada because we can find solutions to another human problem here?

Dear Nathalie,
I write to you confused and desperate. Our son is 42 and still living at home. Since he turned 19, we have been waiting for him to get his own place…and waiting…and waiting…but 23 years have since passed (8.395 days to be exact). If he was anti-social or “a bit of a loser” (as my husband puts it) the situation might be a little easier to understand, but he isn’t at all. He has a good, well paid job, a nice, steady girlfriend and many friends. To get him to move out…
“…my husband and I have resorted to many desperate measures, but even us walking around the house naked every time he brings his girlfriend over doesn’t seem to bother him.”
We are constantly telling him how “sad and pathetic” his must think he is but he just doesn’t care. To get him out of our house for even a few nights, my husband is considering getting him locked up by reporting him to the police for drug dealing. We are both old and tired and we want some privacy. We love our son deary but enough is enough. What can we do to get him to move out? (Is kidnapping an option?)
Yours beyond desperation
Mr. and Mrs. Roberts

Or are you trying to be satirical about a satirical ad?
