'Celebrating Women' - Managing Finace and Planning your Career

By India Rainbow

Mississauga - As part of their ‘Women’s Day’ celebrations, and to honor all women, India Rainbow recently held a panel discussion on ‘Managing Finance & Planning your Career’, wherein more than 60 women participated. The purpose of the event was to empower women with the right tools to attain financial independence, build a career as well as look after their own well-being. The day had a packed agenda with educational and information session for women.
Sheela Joshi, the president of India Rainbow and a Certified Financial Planner in her professional capacity, gave a presentation about the importance of financial planning, especially for women. “Money is like oxygen, you can’t go too far without it. It is important how we get to earn it, spend it, save it and use it wisely” she said. Sheela spoke in detail about long–term planning, especially for old age.
“The key to employment is about successfully marketing yourself; look inside yourself, know your strengths and work on your weaknesses”, said Neeta Singh, Employment Counselor. She spoke about the challenges most newcomers face, and how we can get around these challenges by building on our strengths.
Paramjit Kaur gave an inspiring talk called ‘journey of success’ recounting her own shaky start in IT field and acknowledged the encouragement she received from India Rainbow when she was a newcomer to Canada. She stressed that it is important to have a plan, and then nurture it to see the fruits of your hard work.
The day also featured a brief yoga session by certified Yoga Instructor, Tejwant Atwal who led the participants through gentle stretching, pranayam and relaxation techniques. Jaspreet Bhasin, student placement, recited a poem on motherhood ‘Ma kihoji hondi hai’ paying tribute to all mothers.
Participants were then given information about the opening of a new one-stop Family Justice and Advocacy Clinic opening soon in Brampton; and Deepa Mattoo of South Asian Legal Clinic of Ontario (SALCO) informed about the free legal clinics available to India Rainbow clients to
address issues related to family law.
Ramneet and Neeta also provided some entertainment, and all women were given a token of appreciation for participating in the event.
